I think working line dogs can be happy in a pet home. I would always choose a working line dog, over a show line. For my next dog, I am getting a working line (not GSD though). They are KC and ISDS registered, and are health tested. They cost a lot more than what a lot of people would pay, especially when you can go to a farm and get one for £50... I definitely think it is worth it though, to get a dog where health and temperament are a priority. I have an active home though, and I don't have any worries about having a working line dog. I think maybe for people who do a quick half hour walk around the park, and little mental stimulation, then a working line probably isn't best. But, for an active home I think working lines can make just as good a pet as a show line. People I know (other dog owners) have told me I am nuts for going for a working line, and that they are 'neurotic'... Yes, some do go neurotic because people don't provide them what they need. I think most of the time, it is down to the type of owner.
Ooh how exciting - you must be getting a Border Collie then? Has your pup been born yet? Where is he/she coming from. I bet you can't wait!
Yep, getting a Border Collie He has been born, and was 4 weeks old yesterday. He is coming from Bannetstane, and yeah I am very excited
Yeah, I have pics Not sure if I can post them on here, because I haven't had permission from the breeder, but I can PM them
Very exciting Look forward to seeing piccies when you have him. Just had a quick look at their website. Do they register pups with ISDS as well, as it only says KC registered? I am guessing from their site they are sport bred collies (ie for agility etc). Are you going to do agility with your boy? What colour is he, and do you have a name yet? I hope you have many happy years with him - Border Collies are tops (well after GSDs that is )
Just looked at the webpage again and that is a bitch, so can't be the right pup LOL! I like the little black tri male personally. There was a Dogsey member a while back who had a pup from that breeder and he was absolutely gorgeous. She hasn't been around for a while though
Oh, they weren't there the other day... None of those are the pup I'm getting though. I have pics of the whole litter too so don't want to post pics that aren't on the site. On my mobile so can't multiquote just now
Cute pup, how exciting for you. Yours is 2 weeks and 1 day older than mine, though mines not a bc and there's no work/show/sport split in estrelas, as far as I'm aware at least. My labs were/are from working lines and will take as much or as little excersise as you want to give them, not demanding at all.
I'm not actually sure about the pups but the dogs she has are ISDS registered. They are from working lines but aren't farm bred, if you know what I mean... She works them on sheep as an activity, and she says they are strong working lines. I do hope to do agility with him, I have just started with Jake so hopefully can learn my handling skills for when the pup is old enough. He is a red and white boy, and I have no name yet... me and OH can't agree i like Arrow and Pilot though. I can PM pics of him later
Oooo, that sounds exciting for you too! Is this one of Rio's pups? With the age, I am guessing it is ;-)
Yes he's a Rio pup. And I like red and white BCs, wish we had more of them round here. Having naming issues here too.
Ooooo, can't wait to see pics of him! I am having major naming issues here... Me and OH sat for ages this afternoon going through loads of names
Lol, he's all mine so I get final say on the name, not that it's helping. Oh yes, prepare for puppy pics. I expect to see some of yours too.
