I thought they must have been, or at least closely related. The head type looks familiar, more resemblance than just general lineage/type to what I've seen around (online and in person) so it was just curiosity on my part.

And yes, I do own a working line German Shepherd. He turned 3 years old in February and is an exceptional dog and an excellent companion.

Pictures? You asked for it!! ;) I have more I will probably share in a thread later, if anyone is interested

His name is Zastin and his owner/handler is Thom Payne, if that means anything to you? They are in Ramona, California. He is a stunning dog, and a fabulous worker too.

Wow - I love your dog. He is beautiful. What is his name? Is he a worker, pet or do you compete in sports with him? A really fine looking animal and I would certainly love to see more photos!

Thank you all very much for the kind comments :) I will try to make a photo thread later, I enjoy taking pictures so I have many to share.

I have definitely heard of Zastin Eqidius and Thom Payne, I actually was viewing their protection work videos on Youtube not long ago.

My dog's name is Trent :) He is a pet and we are not currently competing or officially training for any sports, but his breeder and a few friends of mine have finally convinced me to try at Schutzhund with him. His littermates and siblings have proven themselves excellent prospects, but I got him as my first German Shepherd and my first dog so was only looking for a companion.

We will aim for a BH and to have as much fun as we can while learning. I am mostly doing it to learn more about the way he works and to better control him and work with his thresholds. He is strong in defense, more so than prey, and hard in temperament, has been a bit of a challenge in that aspect but I love it! A great dog to watch while standing up to a perceived threat, I have no doubt he'll enjoy dabbling in protection and tracking, too. I'm looking forward to it!

I will hopefully find another puppy within the next year or two, and a few of the breeders I've been looking at are in Europe, including my dog's dam's breeder.

What attracted you to the WL shepherd - as they don't seem to be a usual first choice for a companion dog (in the UK at least)?

Schutzhund training will be a lot of fun I am sure :) I would love to try it with Zak (my WL) but the nearest club is over two hours drive each way, and I don't have full weekends free to be able to do it justice (as the club trains on Sat/Sun full days). I am going to try working trials with my boy instead. You will have to let us know you get on.

Do you have Trent's pedigree on the database? Would love to know which breeders you are considering in Europe.

Look forward to seeing more of your wonderful photos.

Not read all the thread but think some working line dogs could cope in an active pet home, just really depends on the individual dog:)

My mum does Schutzhund with our one, He has his BH and should be going for his SchH1 soon...He's our first working line gsd(and schutzhund dog) and won't be our last(well mums, I'm sticking with rotties for now:mrgreen:)

He's very much a pet when at home and out and about else where, and is great with my niece(4) and nephew(2) and other dogs, everyone he meets, He's just a great dog really:mrgreen:

But anyways the important part... some pics of our working line boy Z...Sadly its mainly puppy pics;-)
(He'll be 3 in May but my laptop is dead atm so no access to newer pics)

Thanks for sharing your photos of Z with us - what a gorgeous boy (as a pup and an adult). Which club does your mum train at?

    What is Z's breeding?

Do you have any photos of him working? I would love to see them if you do :)
