    My son hates bananas. I wonder if I could trick him into eating them with that recipe - it would never cross his mind that there is such a thing as banana soup! I'd certainly never heard of it.

    I am sure that banana soup must be absolutely delicious - to some people. However, somehow it does not really appeal to me! :078:

    But I did have a rather delish banana smoothie this morning...

    I don't know whether I fancy that one Tina! Have you tried it yourself? Also, as a smoked bacon eating vegetarian, (I'm so sorry piggies- I started fancying it when I was on chemo and everything else tasted so foul), I don't think I could manage beef stock cubes. I suppose you could always substitute veggie ones though.

    Yes as a veggie myself I swap the beef cubes for veggie cubes its sooooooooo yummy I told my men it was butter squash soup & they ate it even said how lovely it tasted.

    Righty Ho then, I'll give it a try! So thank you for that Tina. Like Malka, I've never started a soup with a roux - more thickened it at the end if necessary - but it doesn't do to get too set in your ways, I've got a Beagle for that!

    :D It has already been mailed, so all I have to do now is worry about it getting lost in the mail [or dropped by Meri who delivers mail here and is none too careful about parcels and who thinks that "FRAGILE - DO NOT DROP" means get an elephant to sit on it :mad:]

    It is not soup weather here yet but by the time this arrives it should be getting a bit cooler, and I am looking forward to using it! :D

    I love my slow cooker..absolutely great.and anything that makes like easier is a plus in my book!bring on the soup!:)

    One or more of my slow cookers will be in constant use during the winter but they are really only suitable for bulk cooking, as even the little 1.5 litre one hold enough for two meals. But if I want fresh soup I want it now, as in the 20+ minutes it will take in the soup maker, not in 24 hours.

    I mostly cook in bulk and then freeze in portions but then there tends to be a lot of identical meals, whereas I can make different soup whenever I fancy with whatever vegetables I have.

    Anyhow, my next "want" on my list is an electric yoghurt maker as I have never had much success using the yoghurt setting on my dehydrator. Dunno why as I follow all instructions - it just never works properly though. Actually it is more of a "would like" than a want! :D

    I had one years ago and didn't like the yogurt it made. Probally a better machine now. I do love my electric ice cream maker though. Not long ago someone gave me one that you don't even have to put ice in. You just freeze the whole tub. I use that more than the other one now even though it has a smaller compacity.

    I've got recipes somewhere for using jello to flavor ice cream. Raspberry is the best. Years ago I made ice cream just using the freezer. No machine required.

    If I can work out the proportions, I should be able to make yoghurt in my small crockpot.

    Icecream not in a machine? I have vague memories of making it in the freezer but IIRC it had to be stirred every half hour or so to break up the ice crystals.

    It was so long ago I don't remember if it had to be stirred or not. I stopped making my own ice cream long ago when it became cheaper to buy it than to make it.

    cant say im loving the idea of banana soup, but curried bananas with pork chops rice and beans is about the most amazing thing ive eaten so maybe i would like it

    Not sure if I fancy curried bananas somehow. Anyhow, the banana season here is quite short [they are grown in the northern part of Israel] so I would hate to waste any trying to curry them!

    First time I saw bananas growing I did not know what they were as they put plastic bags over them while they are growing. All I saw were these lowish tree type things with huge blue plastic bags dangling down. I was on a bus and had to ask the person sitting next to me what they were! :lol:
