I suppose what you have to consider is availability of puppies at the time you prefer. I imagine the breed is not particularly numerous therefore you may have trouble obtaining a puppy in October. I am guessing this breeder won't have another Mal litter on the ground ready to go in 3-4 months.

I think you are very wise to go for a showline pup.

There seem to be a few BYBs selling "working" Malinois pups with no health testing, but I'm quite keen to avoid them. The breeder I have in mind is not planning another litter this year. I have discussed this with the OH who is quite happy to babysit when I'm working, But I would have preferred to be here for a couple of weeks.

The trip we have planned in October is not an insurmountable problem, we'll just take her with us as well as the boys. She will be crate trained and it's a party in a large cottage on a Welsh mountain...we'll cope.

As you can see I'm doing a great job talking myself out of one of these pups!

This has been a very useful exercise which has helped me come to that decision. Thanks for your input.

Yes it's very exciting. I have just emailed to see if I can go and see the pups this weekend. There is no danger of me making any rash decisions because they will only be 7 weeks old so too young to bring home!

Best of luck with your new pup if you get one.

Will be lovely to have another BSD owner on here.

I have two Groenendaels. One has a father who is a Tervueren.

Like Bijou said they are all the same breed just different types.

Why do you say this SB? Are the working line Malinois too high drive for the average household?

For the BSD experts, what have breeders of working Malis done to the Malinois in order to have this break-away faction of working line dogs that are not like a-typical of the BSD breed? Is it as simple as breeding a high drive dog to another high drive dog etc, or have other breeds been introduced?

I wish I hadn't read the thread and clicked on the links :(
Those breeders are only down the road for me, I must stay strong....
I must stay clear headed and not make any decisions on impulse.

I have had second thoughts about entering the WBSD show in case this happened.
