The rains have not started here yet, but it is a little cooler. I have not needed the a/c on in my bedroom for about a week now, and yesterday was the first day that I did not need to switch on the unit in the salon.

So far [at 12.45pm] I have still not needed to switch it on - I do not know what it is like outside but the thermometer next to me is showing 27.8°C/82.04°F - if it goes above 30° I will probably switch it on at 28° but for the moment it is comfortable.

Some torrential rain last weekend. Chas had to divert the flow to prevent it from flooding the garage - the first time in 15 years. We currently seem to be settled into a 3 days wet, 3 days dry cycle. I would say that is pretty typical for the UK.
tbh every day feels grey without the Beags. They are a hard habit to break.

We've had steady rain here for about 24 hours so far. There are reports of localized flooding. With the lack of rain over the past few years, the ground is hardened and unable to absorb the water.

Tornado-dog is showing his shi tzu and peke breeding. He is taking extreme issue with pottying outside in the rain. He is extremely hesitant to walk on the wet dirt/grass. And he doesn't like the rain drops hitting him. Which is very silly considering he LOVES to play in the sprinkler - on the wet dirt/grass and with water drops hitting him. I'm used to large dog brains - they don't think twice about going out in the rain.

@Helidale - your post made me cry. I still miss my Bat-dog (who showed a good amount of her beagle background). If you were closer, I would loan you Tornado-dog for a visit. Really, it is not because he's driving me crazy.... ;)

Speaking of Tornado-dog, he is now the Official Package Opener. He hasn't figured out how to open boxes yet, but he does de-stuff them. He is very clear that ALL plastic and manila envelope style packaging is his to open. He is exeedingly capable at it. He grabs a corner and pulls while I hold the rest. He also deflates all air packets and bubble wrap for recycling. He is thinking of going into business.

Winter arrived yesterday evening with loud thunder and heavy rain. Our first rains of the season. Today it has been raining quite heavily most of the day, with just a few breaks, and thunder rumbling away in the distance.

And it is cccccold. The temperature has plummeted to the extent that I have had to put the heating on in the salon today - crazy when you think that on Monday I had the a/c on for part of the day as it was so hot.

We've seen about as much rain since September as we did the entire prior year.

I think I’m over 30 inches so far this rainy season. Pretty sure that’s a lot more than last year. Most of it is from two storms. Much earlier in the fall I got 16 inches over a few days.

That's a good amount. Last year we only got 7.9 inches total. Hopefully we'll get over 20 inches this year.

The biggest problem is when the rain comes. If it all comes before January, then we risk too much at once and they have to release it from the reservoirs. Then if there is no more rain, we are screwed. If it all comes after February, they have to release it in anticipation of snowmelt and so we toss the last water of the year.

If we could get one good storm every month from October through April, we'd be in good stead.

Damp and cold alternating with damp and warm here. Nothing too extreme though. So sad to see the TV coverage of the tornado damage. So many dead and missing, where are the survivors to go - just before Christmas too. Poor kids, and are there pet survivors?
Sorry to hear about all.the rainfall - are you in California too Toed? Not the best weather for building Marc - everything wet to handle and ground turned into a bog!

Yep, in California. In the Sacramento valley.

The rain is a good thing - we REALLY need the water. Sky is clearing up today, so it was a good storm - long enough to give lots of rain, but so long as to oversaturate the ground. So no flooding.

It's really sad to see so many missing and homeless. I really hope the rumors about the candle factory are untrue.

We rarely get thunder, lightning and hail, but had all three today. Dogs didn’t like it. Katie Mae is still feeling uneasy, and is laying behind my lazy boy recliner. The rain is easing off, so I think we’ll go for a walk soon. It’s cold though, for the Santa Cruz mountains, only 43, and that’s probably as warm as it will get today. Two more days of rain after today.

Hopefully we'll get some of your thunder and lightning soon. We haven't had any since summer and you can't enjoy it then due to the fire risk.

Been relaxing. Spent last night watching Lion in Winter and White Christmas. Today watched Fisherman's Friend and now Men With Brooms. ;)

    Tornado-dog says "play with me!"
    IMG_20211224_1506167.jpg
"I said Play With Me! We can play with the new stingray or the skunk!"
    IMG_20211224_1506271.jpg
"Dammit! Here's the darn stingray! Now Play!!!!"

Well the walk wasn’t dry but rain wasn’t coming down as hard. We all needed to get outside and stretch our legs

Mucky and murky here. Fed up of having the lights on most of the day. Rainy, but the light, bordering on drizzy stuff that wets you through, but you don't notice it until you are drenched.

Ah well, soon be spring :)

We have had a foggy/misty Christmas too. Some rain, but it has been after 4pm, ie. after dark.
I was thrilled to be given a consultation appointment for the 5th, Jan., but that has now been cancelled.
Chas has a CT scan appointment for the 4th. The hospital said it was for the pelvic area, but when the GP phoned she said it was because his chest x-ray was inconclusive! Confused.com. Ah well, it's only a week till we find out.

I hope the Dr is getting things cleared up with the hospital so it's all corrected before you get there.

We never got the thunder and lightning...

Been watching a Dr Who marathon - on through New Year's Day.

Fingers crossed for Chas, Carole. I have an eye injection on Wednesday. Really looking forward to that <sigh>. Ah well, better than going blind I suppose

Thank you Chris. I hope it goes well for you. Will you be able to drive home?
Chas has to go to the University hospital. It's an awkward journey, and the car parks are always packed, so I think we will use a taxi. Hospital visits are stressful enough without having to search for a parking space when you arrive.

Not driving at all at the moment Carole as my eyesight is deteriorating fast. This will be the second injection of three then to see the specialist to see if they are making a difference. Then he will book me in for a cateract op in the other eye. Never have believed in doing things by halves :)
