Slight frost this morning but the sun soon put that to bed..
Lovely and warm today and yesterday, twas the first morning this winter I didn't have to relight the woodstove and is still luvly and warm in the house.
I thought I heard a Golden Oriole this morn, they have a very distinctive call, I caught a glimpse of two birds in the trees but they are very shy...they are very brightly coloured but still camouflage very well into the leaves of the trees..
Having said that it should be at least another month before they come back to SW France so I am a bit confused..
    Happy days...

What a beautiful bird that is, Andrew.

Not a lot of sun, but we are beginning to need a little less heating in the house. The primulas and crocus are starting to flower, and posters have gone up for the Snowdrop Walks at Rode Hall - usually there are large drifts of so many different species, scattered amongst the grounds and woodland. Promising, but we still need a little more sunlight.

I miss the snowdrops and crocuses we had in the parent's front garden - and all the other flowering trees and bushes but the snowdrops were the first to burst through the ground and flower.

The back garden? Father and his herbaceous borders - the furtherst third of the back being his vegetable and fruit garden - there is a lot of green here because of loads of trees but I miss the flowers of my childhood.

At long last the weather seems to be improving, although it snowed again yesterday morning. It's definitely warmer than it was but the problem is now that the ground is water logged! The dogs did get a walk along the road this morning but when I tried to get them up the hill and onto the cart track at the back of my land found it was so muddy with rivulets of water everywhere, gave it up as a bad job and we settled for a bit of recall training on the dry bits instead!

Gwylim's in desperate need of a hair cut as he looks more like a Teddy Bear than a Schnauzer and to have Georgina bathed as she's looking several shades darker than normal, so have emailed the groomer to make an appointment and our trainer asking when we can start obedience again ... hopefully next Sunday! I bought them new Julius K9 2 metre leads for Christmas in turquoise to match their harnesses and collars which I haven't tried yet so I'm looking forward to seeing them both "smartly dressed!

Been dull and light drizzly rain most of the day, looking forward to the ‘supposed heat wave’ next week.

After days of rain, on more than off, today has been another lovely sunny day - three days in a row I think. And sun = hot water = SHOWER!

I have been thinking of all the flowers and vegetables Father grew [I had nightmares for years because of the blackcurrents - Mother making blackcurrent jam which seemed to last forever] but I never complained about the rhubarb because I loved it.

I often wonder how Father grew such wonderful things but then again he did follow the delivery carts with a shovel and bucket...

Oh we had snow. Not every year but when it snowed, it snowed. Father came home from Synagogue one Shabbat, climbed up on the coal bunker and walked across the top of the fence - and fell in the snow!

Our [twin and I] 5th birthday party was cancelled because of snow, and yet the next year we were all in summer clothes playing in the back garden.

Not forgetting years later when my poor Griffons could not get out because when I opened my back door snow fell in. Not to worry, get the spade from the shed to clear some space only the roof of the shed had done a collops from the weight of the snow.

Yes Malka, we are the same age, so that would be 1947. I also remember my Dad having to dig a way out of the door with the coal shovel, so we could get out of the house. I also have a memory from around that time of our road being flooded and we kids paddling knee deep in water (!!! How did we survive the risk from those drains?). I think that might have been when the thaw came and the drains couldn't cope.
Is your twin still living? My brother passed ten years ago, and he was five years younger than me!
    Happy showering.

Storm Doris going on here, gale force winds and heavy rain, gonna be fun trying to get JJ out with mobility scooter! Given him a giant salmon kong to keep him busy for a while and hoping wind and rain eases off at some point during the day!

Somehow I thought you were younger but yes, it was 1947. And I had my appendix out the following year when the National Health Service came into being.

    Ah, 1947 was a good year - that's when I was born!

The wind is reaching quite scary levels here! Will little Chico get blown away and end up in the land of Oz? Pepe can only hope.

    Gosh brings back happy memories
I grew up in the middle of no-where and as a child can remember walking the 2 miles to school with snow waist high,Oh what fun ‘ here in Cornwall if we get a ‘flurry of snow’ everything comes to a standstill.

Strong winds here but wouldn’t say gale force, dry with glimpse of sun.

The radio weather reports are quite scary, so do take care everyone. I'm afraid that for us it looks like a rare, 'dogs can make do with the garden', day today, and they don't seem to be bothered about that - yet. It must be cold here, as the windows are steaming up - Oh well, daytime heating back on again. :-(

The wind is even stronger now - and yet, bizarrely, the sun is dazzling!

I've just made the decision to miss out the dog walk today - there will be lots of flying debris and could be quite dangerous if tiny Chico gets hit.

I've still got to go to the shops though - not looking forward to it.

Well, I've just wimped out - I'm not going to the shops, we can just make do with what's in the freezer!

The wind has blown over my bird tables. Luckily the wheelie bins are full, otherwise they'd be blown over as well.

I hope no one gets hurt.

There is no sun here, just driving rain - the kind that finds its way through your clothes. We are surrounded by woodland, and the noise from the trees sounds like a passing IntercIty train.

Weather is nice here. Got a bit of rain last night but not cold at all and should dry up quickly. More 70+ temperatures around the corner. Truly feel that spring (or global warming) now. Very happy!

The power lines are down in the next town. The sunshine we had earlier has long gone and it's now cold and wet as well as windy. All sorts of things keep flying past the window!

Just hope we don't lose our electricity here.

Looking at the papers Doris has caused lots of damage, resulting on one death.
Guess we have been lucky this time as it hasnt been to bad here.

Well what a day today has been. Hellish weather with quite a few trees down here I'm told and there was one of the plastic do-dahs that they put on the gables to hide the concrete at the side of the tiles in the road. Tried to see where it had come from, but couldn't so moved it to the side where I hope the owner finds it. Three runs down to my son's today and getting in and out of the car was 'interesting'. Either the wind was holding the door closed or trying to rip it out of my hands. Thankfully, it's calmed down now so hopefully it's the last of it.

All is calm here this morning. I haven't been out with the dogs or into town yet so I don't know if any damage has been done, but I've been round the garden and apart from rubbish which has been blown in we have got off very lightly. The bird tables which were blown over aren't damaged I'm pleased to say!
