It was a wee bit not so warm when I had to let Tikva out for a p&p at around 6am, after which she went back in her crate and let me have another couple of hours zonk and it was back to nice and comfortable a few hours later. However, I only had a very thin sort-of quilted but lightweight and really thin "summer blanket" on the bed and woke up some time in the early hours feeling a bit chilly, so this morning got out another of these "summer blankets" [well that is what they are called] - no top sheet necessary and they are not big enough to tuck in, but ideal as I hate things tucked in on my bed. I think though it is time I got someone to lift the slatted base under my mattress so I can get a duvet out from under it, although I do not think I will need it for some time yet. All three windows in my bedroom are still open although I close the trissim at night and if winter, when it comes, is the same as it usually is, which can be quite cold where I am, the front window will stay open all the time, with just the trissim closed.
Yes plus the hot water from AGA is running through pipes in wall keeping walls warm, men can just freeze or they can put extra clothes on
Our weather here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has been very strange (but very welcome) for this time of the year. Usually, we're well into snow and minus temperatures (celsius) by now. This year however, we've been enjoying a looong Fall season. Although we've had a smattering of snow a few weeks ago, it all melted and hasn't been back since (and I for one don't miss it). Temperatures, have ranged from -1C or -2C at night, to +10C or so during the day time. The other day, temps soared up to +22C, which is unheared of for November. My opinion is, it can stay like this til Spring, then get better . I'm sleeping with my window cracked open, mostly due to gassy pups, lol .
I woke up this morning to find about an inch of snow which is a few weeks early for us. I was going to take a photo, but couldn't because for some reason the card lock was on! By the time I'd sorted it out and went outside the snow had disappeared! We've just arrived back from a trip abroad ... bit of a joke really as "abroad" is only 25 miles up the road from where I live! My son has been staying with me, but this year instead of flying from Bristol to Budapest he flew Bristol to Kosice Slovakia which theoretically should have been easier. The hassle though trying to find the airport which seems to be the city's closest secret because it's so badly signposted and if you're not careful you find yourself halfway to Poland! I've told him that next year instead of me going to fetch/return him he's got to get a taxi!
Frozen cars this morning, then cold and overcast. However, Merry was Best of Breed today so I've had a nice inner glow.
We've had lots of fog, and freezing fog around here in Calgary, with just a dusting of snow (enough to make the roads a bit slippery). You would swear that people forget how to Winter drive from one year to the next (and some still have their Summer tires on, which is an accident waiting to happen). Today it's only -5C, but because it's damp (again unusual for here), it feels colder. Here's Baby Charlie with his walking stick, lol.
It's raining this morning. Gwylim's snuggled up on my armchair and Georgina's also fast asleep in the doorway and when I want to go outside I'll either have to wake her up or step over her! My central heating packed up yesterday but still have hot water fortunately. Nothing I can do about it until tomorrow. Not too much of a disaster though because I have wood burning stoves in every room to keep us warm until the Baxi is repaired! We had our second lot of snow last Wednesday which was enough to keep the dogs occupied outside for half an hour or so until their paws got cold!
It is not exactly still summer here although I have yet to close any of my windows, but it is delightfully warm. Pleasantly warm. Comfortably warm. There have been a couple of days when I thought it might rain - but it did not. Heating? Not yet!
@Pork1epe1 I do envy your little field Barbara. Ideal for those conditions - so much better than pounding the same slushy track as all the local dogs. Hope you heating is fixed soon, but there is a lot to be said for a crackling fire when the nights draw in.
Thanks Carole. There's just over half and acre of what used to be a ploughed field, thankfully now a grassy meadow but rather bumpy! I had 1500 sq metres enclosed a few years ago so the dogs can be left outside safely. It's too big an area for me to cut the grass myself and from April till October it costs about £20 a month to pay to have it done, but worth it because on days when the cart tracks are muddy I just walk the dogs on the back half of the land beyond the gate in the fence which you can see in the photo. On dry days we go through the gap right at the top of the photo and onto the cart track and fields beyond!.
It was horrific here last night, thrashing rain and gale force winds, woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine and not a puff of wind.
Sunny outside for most of the days but very cold indoors. And a lot of rain evenings and during the night, with yet another thunder storm yesterday evenings. We are also having a lot of power outtages which is not that common and is rather distressing as the electricity company never knows for how long the power will be off. But late afternoons and evenings need all air cons on. Not that high [or I would not be able to pay the bill] but enough to take the chill off the air.
