I have a 5 year old Border Collie and our pup BC who is now nearly 10 months old. I have had them both from puppies. Bill the older one is very relaxed and calm (he is from working parents) and is a bit of a couch potato. However kayleigh, likes to be busier, she has a pop bottle fetish and she loves to go on 'hunts' for them when we are out. kayleigh is 3/4 new zealand and 1/4 british breeding but is proof that they have not lost their instincts, as she is sooo bright. I vary their walks as much as I can, sometimes we go to the woods (my daughter likes to play hide and seek - the collies then run and find her !!), other times we go on the canal, through the fields or the park, they also come with us in the forest when we are riding our bikes. We do a lot of fell walking and up until now we haven't taken the pup, she will be doing Ingleborough on Monday, I didn't want to do too much too soon with her. We take them camping, to guest houses and to my mums caravan. they love to be with us anywhere and are very well behaved in the PUB !! lol But like many have mentioned, they need mental stimulation. We hide things in the house for them to find and do retrieves etc and general obediance training. We are also due to start agility soon I find that if you exercise them TOO much they just get to expect it all the time and then find that they cannot settle without a 3hr walk a day!! lol I love them I would never have another breed now !! I wouldn't worry about it too much - you have already shown that you are caring and sensible by starting the post, I am sure when the time is right you would give a good home to a Border Collie - any if you ever need any help or advise you will definately find it on here
