At our old house we had a huge window ledge in the bay of the front window, and I used to let Mavis, Vera and Edna play on there. They used to go behind the curtains, climb up and peer down at us from the top. What I didn't know was that they were also shredding the lining of the curtains. We couldn't see it from inside the house, but what it must have looked like from the outside I dread to think!

I was rather attached to the various hamsters we had when the children were young, although unfortunately none ever lived that long, but rats?

Sorry, but I honestly do not think I could be near one let alone touch one - sort of like how I feel about tarantulas?

When we had ET, Milo, Xena & Gabby I had Zara my system alert dog & one night we forgotten to put the lid back on the boys tank, when we got up in the morning we couldn't find ET anywhere, we thought we had lost him that was until we saw Zara baring her teeth at Xena & when we went to investigate why we saw ET curled up between her front legs, Zara was protecting ET from Xena because he was asleep.

I do quite like rats, especially the Satins, but their tails have always put me off having one of my own. Hamsters don't live long enough and are too nocturnal, but the Gerbils, with their little paintbrush tails, I really loved.

OK - I give in. Some of you obviously love rats.

    Me?

    No way, never never never.

How can I possibly explain how I feel about them?

When I was growing up we lived in a country cottage, we had two goats ‘Bunty and Blossom’ they were real characters though very mischievous I used to spend hours teaching them all sort of tricks, as we were surrounded by fields I used to take them with couple of Gsd’s for a walk, though it took forever as they were forever stopping to eat.

Till recently I had Ferrets’ as pets started off with one ended up with eight mostly rescues, they make fantastic pets and are lots of fun they came indoors everyday and were litter trained, though they were into everything and one had to watch them very carefully indoors, I could write a book on the things they got up to, perhaps I might get a couple again one day.

Always fancied a ferret, but felt they wouldn't get on very well with rats!

I've only ever handled them at Game Fairs, where Ferret Rescue used to have a stand and charge 50pence for a cuddle to raise funds.

Perhaps one day I'll get one - after all, I've already got a ferret harness! (Chico the Chihuahua came with one, though I never used it.)

Oh my gracious, so very adorable!!!!!! My daughter's rat Blueberry passed some weeks ago. Fortunately with rats, any litter, any age and they accept each other just like that. I brought home a baby female the same day. Jupiter the remaining rat did just fine with her and now she too is twice her size. Rats are terrific absolutely!

Sorry to hear about Blueberry (what a lovely name by the way.)

Yes, I've introduced new rats to each other with no problem at all. I think they were all female, looking back - I can't recall introducing new rats to any of the males, so I don't know if they would have been any different.

And I agree - rats are terrific!
