The chicken backs I bought for Pereg I would tear into three pieces as the necks were large. Still too large for Tikva. So I would tear the complete neck out and then break the back into two pieces. For Tikki he brings me chicken necks, but the smaller ends, cut in half, and two are ideal for her first meal.

She had not had chicken wings before but will only get the small ones - the larger ones will go in a crockpot for me. Waste not want not and they are all strictly Kasher so fine for me.

Little One, my Lexi, was not raw fed [I knew nothing about it then]. And it was quite easy to change Pereg onto raw food especially as she was not that small at that time whereas Tikki is still only about 5.5 kilos, and I have to watch her weight, especially being half Doxie.

Only one problem now. Michal wants to spay Tikva when she is six months old as she reckons she is/will be big enough and prefers to spay her before her first season. At 5½ months old and a rock solid 5.5kilos, she is probably right. Just seems rather young to me.

I have never had a bitch speyed before her first season, and like to have it done three months after that occurs. Tweed was approx. 14 months when she was done, but If she had come from the Dogs Trust rather than the city dogs home, I would not have had the choice as they insist on juvenile speying before adoption.
I come from a generation which was told that early speying was the reason for spey incontinence, but vets today tell us that the risk is hardly any higher than when it is done later. It is a hard decision to make, as there are arguments on both sides, and for many people the maxim, better safe than sorry, probably makes greater sense.

After the messy first season Pereg had, at 5 months old - she woke up in the morning on sodden apple-green sheets on my bed, I was only too happy to have her spayed three months later. LO had also had her first season at 5 months of age but hardly showed.

I do not know what to do. According to Michal, Ram is also now in favour of juvenile spaying if the bitch is big enough whereas previously he preferred to wait three months after the first season. Tikva is not particularly big but she is rock solid and heavy for her size, even though she looks very slim.

I would not be over-bothered but all of a sudden she likes going out in the front yard, on Pereg's thick soft tether, and there is no way I can keep going out with her. It was sheer h*ll with Pereg. Tikki still will not go out for walks but has decided "out" in the yard is fun. Not that she will pee or poo outside, but weeds and dirt appear to be fun.

Oh, and she will go out on Pereg's tether when it is dark and/or raining.

Not that she looks like a puppy now, but did I ever say that she is a strange puppy?
