Sadly I have already had a few dirty looks and comments from people who know my dog is a NI and seen this article.

Also I have had concerned neighbour's and if this is just me with my one NI, I worry about what is going on with other people in the Oldham area who have more NI's than me.:-(

Its a shame but many people take what is printed in the media as gospel and if its in black and white before them they assume that it cannot be wrong.

Its well established that libelous comments in the media do destroy reputations, lets all just hope this one incident blows over and we dont get anymore undeserved bad press.

    yes
and after a rotty attack the rotty owners get "the looks"
and after a staffy attack the staffy owners get "the looks"
and after a malamute attack the mal owners get "the looks"..

UNTIL the next attack and then its all forgotten about..

just TELL the people yes your dog is an NI BUT its not THOSE NI

When I had my Rottie, I had people crossing the road to avoid me, I had insults throw at me about owning a 'devil dog' and even one person blasted me in the street for having a dangerous dog in a public area :-( :-(

I have GSDs and I still get cr*p. One guy wouldn't come within 10 feet of Shaan because he thought he'd be attacked. He told me that all GSDs were viscous, that I only had to read the paper/watch news etc. :-(

Just keep your head held high  Ignore the looks and the comments. Stand in the face of adversity as they would say

Oooh now that really annoys me. There should be a Dangerous Humans Act!
People who judge every dog or every person with the same brush shouldnt be allowed out on the street.
I wonder if the same man would walk passed a group of hooligans in the street and feel them shout verbals and turn and tell them they are viscious? I wonder what would happen to him if he did?:?
Some people are far too quick to be judgemental yet the group of hooligans could just be having playful banter between themselves.
Our dogs are our babies to us.
How dare anyone abuse them and judge them as something dismissively they obviously know little about.

My NI is so soft he submitted to a Schitz Tzu (spelt wrong I think). It was only a foot long and he is 6 stone. He has also been picked on by much smaller normal breeds without retaliating. People do sometimes cross the road because he looks wolfy, but those that meet him think he is fantastic as he rolls around on the floor to be stroked.

There is always the exception to the rule with any breed and it is owner responsibility. I would not let mine run up to small children and dogs for his own safety.

I had also heard that the RSPCA have a pts policy for any wolf type dogs they pick up which is really worrying. Is this true does anyone know? I was refused pet insurance by them as they said NI was on the dangerous dog list. This was especially silly as they insured through AXA which insures NIs through other companies.

When I was looking for insurance for Loki I phoned a few that didn't insure NI as they classed them as wolf hybrid.
In the end I asked why as and the man said because true inuit dogs would have had wolf blood in them as they would have mated with wolves in the wild.
So I think its down to the name Inuit.

I went with petplan in the end just carried it on from my 6 weeks free from breeder.

I wish I'd had time to take a picture of Lady the other day comming flying out of the chicken run, tail between legs ,hackles up and growling nervously followed by a very irate young cockeral:lol:
I also have trouble with people crossing the road TOWARDS her to fuss her--she's still at the puddles everywhere mode!

Yes they are big softies - ours has just had the same reaction to a bag of dried dog food that was on the floor at his dog class. Silly boy.
