Sorry just read the whole thread and cannot believe the lengths some people will go to to cause trouble ie: Billy675! I bet they have no experience of dogs never mind Staffies and should check the statistics before making these allegations: statistically there are more people bitten by Labradors, Retrievers, JRTs, Miniature & Toy Poodles..... than people bitten by most if not all of the so-called "Bully breeds" - haven't they heard of "Blame the deed not the Breed"? Numpties... was that a goat I just saw crossing the bridge again???? Busy this week...
God how dense am I? Billy (goat) - should be a nanny goat though as a female which it says on their profile......

unfortunately I have had had 2 bad experiences with Staffies.
once when I saw 2 of them tear an old ladies Yorkie to pieces over the park, the owners were two teenage boys who just ran off laughing.
and once when 2 of them pinned my CKC to the floor and had her by the neck and rear left leg (I managed to fight them off with the help of a friend) My dog was thankfully not too hurt but couldn't kump up for a week and had puncture wounds to her neck. The owener in this case wasn't even around, he just opended his door and let them walk themselves.

So from my experiences I have to say i am not a fan. Beautiful dogs though.

Sadly, that is because there are a small minority of idiot irresponsible owners with some Bully Breed dogs and at the end of the day whilst I appreciate both events must have been horrific to witness, had theose dogs had good owners they would not have been taught to behave like that - a classic case of "Blame the deed not the breed" - whilst there are bad owners of every breed, because the media have their teeth (sorry bad choice of phrase) in the Rotties, Staffs etc and are slurring them as a breed as vicious with no exceptions. We have never had a Staff and probably wouldn't just because we have other favourites we still think they are wonderful dogs and will support them as any other breed.

Even those who own Staffies have to admit that a latge proportion of the breed are not very good with other dogs. Unfortunately a lot of the breed are owned by the type of people who likee to promote this aggression.

I do wish Staffy owners would not keep insisting their breed is perfect - as with most other breeds it has good and bad characteristics. They are great with people but not always good with other dogs, which is why a lot of dog walkers dont like them.

I am neither a Staffy owner nor have I ever had one but I don't know of any who make out their choice of breed are "perfect" - they just, like all owner s of any breed want to ensure that the breed don't get a bad name unnecessarily and correct media hype!

The majority of SBT owners are responsible however there are a few that spoil it for others.
I own two staffords and my bitch Meg is not good with other dogs sadly, however I keep her under control and onlead at all times.
We have had incidents with idiots who own other breeds who have allowed there loose out of control dogs approach her, apart from shout a warning there isn't much else I can do is there ?

Both of mine have been bitten countless times by other dogs, hence I now have a DA bitch

Those responsible owners who know there dogs are not good with others keep them under control.

I agree with Sal. Responsble owners of any breed are no problem to other people or dogs.

My dogs are always under my control if not great off lead then they stay on lead until they are.

I just wish other dog walkers of what ever the breed would do the same

    How true!
Our Dyson is not great off lead and can forget his training etc too, but we do the responsible thing.

As for Mr Billygoat, sir, your entitled to your opinion, but that is a very dissapointing attitude that you hold.

There is not a responsible dog owner out there, that does not know their "perfect" pet has it's own short comings, however it's what they chose to do with it, is what makes them RESPONSIBLE.

The negativity toward the breed is EXACTLY the reason why I will be collecting my wee staffie this week and doing everything I can to bring her up as a well mannered and affectionate specimen of the breed.

I totally agree with many of the posts here, treat your dog well and responsibly it will be the loving and loyal companion the Kennel Club identify it as.

I guess sadly we are all governed by our experiences of other dogs however. I am sure if we had met nice friendly well-behaved Staffies I would have a different view however my male dog has been bitten by one, my 7 year-old great-niece was bitten by one and had to go to hospital (it belonged to a friend of the family and knew her and she was very sensible round dogs from a young age) and we also have problems with the people who think it ok to let them charge up to my dogs from a very long distance away growling or trying to jump all over my leashed partially sighted bitch, then having a go at me when I remonstrate with them.

I recently met one very nice calm well-behaved one on the park and it was lovely to see my male dog Parker socialise with it normally as because of the dog-aggressive ones near where we live I have to leash him if there are any about.

It is either the breeding that is to blame or the rearing of the dogs. The saddest sight I saw was at agility classes where there was a Staffy that spent all night trying to hide in the corner as it was severely agraphobic. The owner was told this had happened because the breeder had been trying to breed agression out of the line.

We had another upset on a walk recently when a bloke walking 2 large Staffies on leads, put them on his boat and they both escaped and ran straight at my bitch growling. No apology-just had a go at us because we "over-reacted" and shouted and I aimed a kick at the one nearest my bitch's head to stop it injuring her. She has just had eye surgery and is quite vulnerable and I thought his attitude stank. If it had been me I would have been grovelling with an apology if my dogs had behaved like that (I had leashed my other dog when I saw him coming with his 2 on leads). They do seem to attract the wrong owners in my experience.

As Billy is in the States where Staffords are a minority breed I doubt he has even met any.

I cant recall any incident of a staffie "mauling kids to death". There have been lots of reported maulings involving pit bulls from your side of the pond, maybe you have never seen a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and think that pit bulls and their crosses are the same breed as staffies, they are not, they are very different in looks, size and temprement.

    As a general rule, .
There are no bad dogs, only bad owners
