Oh Dawn, you do make me laugh.........LOL Anne, there's only one context for DILLIGAF, because the saying itself speaks for itself, it's not really a question, but a statement If you have another meaning for it, please elaborate ?
Well Mr Wilson states quite clearly what it stands for.. and I am happy to agree with his original version
Ok.. I have been nice up until now.. but I won't have you calling me names on a public forum... Thats just plain ridiculous.. Maybe the others don't mind being called ladies but I certainly do Just remember it the next time someone p*sses you off.. :smt002
I think the limitations of any dogs training, are a direct reflection of the abillity their trainer... nuff said..
Providing the dog has a decent recall and is not a high threat to other dogs, I think all dogs should be let off lead on a daily basis. Dogs needs to be off lead regularly, imo, it's confidence building for them and they are hopefully able to mix properly with other dogs without being restricted. There is nothing better than seeing dogs run around playing happily together with other dogs. I regularly met a man with 2 Beagles at the park. As most of you will know, they are not the easiest dogs to train, especially on recall! However, his oldest Beagle, who is 4 years old, trotts along happily off lead and mixes well with other dogs. Of course, being a Beagle he does a lot of sniffing (!) but when it's time to get put back on the lead, he happily comes, sniffing all the way! The younger dog, who they've had for 6 months and is a rescue dog, is proving quite difficult to train, he's 18 months old. The consistant training is paying off though, and the man is gradually expanding the amount of time the dog is off lead, with major success. He is getting there though and improving every time I see him. I also know of Beagle though who isn't as trustworthy off lead. We also met an ex racing greyhound (a rehomed dog) at the park. He loves nothing better than to run and run with my crossbreed. He's the only dog we meet who can outrun Roxy! It's brilliant to watch. With regards to Spitz breeds, I don't know any. (I don't think!). I think a large part of being able to let dogs off lead is mostly down to training.
Yes Anne... its really refreshing to hear someone commenting on breeds she admits she doens't know Might be nice to hear you talking sense and admit that no one said that Sibes can't be taught recall.. JUST that 99% of sibe owners value their dogs lives soo much that they won't take the chance
Yes... and so are all the other sibe owners who work their dogs instead of letting them run about in unenclosed areas
I agree with this :smt001 I also strongly believe that those breeders who recommend their sibe pups can never be exercised off lead should only be selling them to working homes.
Lou, I wouldn't bother hun. This conversation with AnneUK has been going for .............well ages, it's like banging your head against a brick wall. Let her have her beliefs and hope to god that none of her Sibes ever actually get a life and leg it
I don't see why have a poll and then get cross anyone who has a different opinion? It baffles me completely I work my Mals in harness, walk them on lead and let them off lead in enclosed spaces ..*I* am happy with that. What other people choose to do is entirely up to them
Eh? My comments in my previous posts were about breeds I do know. All i've said is that I don't know any Spitz breeds personally, but I do believe that ALL dogs, no matter the breed, can be trained to be let off lead safely. Now, if Beagles can be trained to behave well off lead....then so can all other breeds!
