    HI there

Can't say obviously without seeing the dog but it does sound as if it was a working cocker. My wc is quite small and squat. The thing about working cockers is that they come in all shapes and sizes because they are bred for temperament and working ability and not for looks. I think that the chocolate wc is a beautiful little dog. The dogs tend to be quite "typey" depending on which kennel they come from. Jack, my wc, is very much a kingcott working cocker. I just love working cockers. Far too intelligent though. Mine runs rings around me. He has me sussed.

    Kind regards
    Annie

    Hiya

It's more than likely that it was not a springer as all liver springer spaniels are quite rare.

Even a KC registered springer spaniel can be all liver. Also a puppy with very little white can eventually become all brown.

That's a bit uncalled for don't you think?

To the untrained eye they may look a like. Not everyone's an expert at the end of the day.

You're quite right. A bit un-called for. It's not a debate topic and as you say not everybody is an expert. Don't fret over other's comments.

At the risk of causing ww3 - Field Spaniels are actually a 'selection' of springers anyway.

    Run away................

Is it possible it was a springer but with unusal colouring?, as i know labs can be mis-marked or come in not standard colours.

    Yes.

But all liver or all white or all 'tan' is very very rare.

It is however possible and if the owners that said he was a springer are correct then that's fine - a rare dog.

Many many years ago, you could find 'springers' cockers' and 'fields' in the same litter certainly.
In fact the relationship to the springer is more recent (relatively) than that, although still far enough away that it ought not to come into the equation.
Seriously, throwback to springers are not desirable, and although I have seen pet Fields' with 'springer bone', they have in every case had a distinct Field Spaniel head.

he might well have been sold as a springer luke, he might even be a throwback to something 'added' in generations gone by, which the breeders may not have been aware of.
It happens, and can come back to bite the innocent on the b*m years later ;)

    did you get a pic?
