    Hi All,

We will be getting our Slovak at the end of October... It is a little worrying to read about all the problems people have had...

We breed Norwich Terriers and NONE of our pups have ever gone to new homes with the runs. I always ask them to get them check by their vets within 48hrs too.

I know Londonlou's little one had a bug, but could this be a nervous thing?

Were all the ones mentioned here from Stormdancer?

    Thanks

    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,

Grey had two bugs when we tested him 4 weeks after getting him with a month solid of the runs not improving. The infections are not caused by stress. They pick it up from infected feces. They were a parasite infection called Giardia and a bacterial infection called Campylobacter. Both these can be transmitted to humans. So need a lot of care in cleaning up the poop and because the eggs of Giardia can live in the environment, have to clean up the area where they have eliminated. However, whether the runs he started with were those infections is another thing. It's possible he started with runs caused by stress, then picked up an infection. But as he was a young pup he wasn't put on the ground outside till after his jabs. With the runs it's a possibility of 101 causes. I did meet another owner of a stormdancer weim who also tested positive for campylobacter which took multiple courses of anti-biotics to cure last year. Again, with infections they can come from anywhere. Difficult to say where he got them from. Best thing is to be aware and to test if in doubt. If test positive best that all littermates are notified as would need a blitz of kennels to erradicate.

Where is your pup coming from if you don't mind me asking?

Good luck with your puppy! boy or girl?

I've started a blog for grey where I post stuff about his progress etc. Run a search for him on blogger. Also I've started an group on face book if you search for the breed on there. Can't post links on dogsey which is annoying.

    Hi Lou,

Sorry, I wasnt clear in my post... I know your Grey had bugs that caused his runs, I was refering more to others who had runs... just wondering if that is a breed "trait" (sp!)

I am so glad your boy is better now!

We are getting ours from Sue Eastwood.. A Girl! Just waiting to hear if they have been born yet!

    Hi Charlie,

Ooooo, I think I've heard of the Eastwoods. Where are they based? What lines are they from then? Got an idea of the pedigree?

I wonder too if anyone else with the runs got test results. Would be interesting to know. The breeder said no one else had had the runs that she knew of. Sage Lady - you still on here? Wonder who Freya is doing. :)

Anyone else going to the breed club fun day in Aughton on Sept 28th?

    Hi Ros,

Thanks for the info... I have no doubt that Sue and Johns dogs are first class... we went to visit them recently and took our two norwich terriers down too... really nice pack of SRHPs and the eastwoods are lovely too.

I just wondered if the breed was known for getting a little nervous when pups..

    Thanks

    hi charlie,

Maggie has never been nervous of anything. so laid back and tends to take everything in a stride. In fact when we first got her, for the first couple of months we thought she was ill (being used to weimaraners)! but no, it was just her nature, she just doesnt do stress!!! the only thing that she had when we got her was fleas so if i was you i would take a bottle of spot on!! because we itched all the way home!

Grey is a laid back pup too. Until this week that is, when he;s going through that 20 week fear period. He's barked at men in hats, with sticks and a paper cup this week. But in general, he's where I parked him kind of laid back. And this despite the teeth and illness stuff to get over. Even after being attacked a few times, he still loves other dogs.

aww, sounds like you've both been having troubles. Dawn, sorry to hear about your cat. Ros, what are you like? We'll have to send you carrier pidgeons soon!

Grey is well. He seems to have completely unlearnt 'down' which is weird. He won't even be lured into it most attempts. then if he does do one, he won't do anymore. Must be because he's nearly a teenager! Oh and he cocked his leg for the first time yesterday! But back to squatting like a girlie today.

    Love

oh hi grey and lou,i find it really funny when they start to cock a leg has he fell over doing yet,a dog i had would try and cock his leg so high he 'd fall over and sometimes he'd get muddled and cock the wrong leg so beware or wear wellies, as for the down command maggie play's up with that great when we frist started ,but then she sit and look at me as much to say this will do but any other timeshe'd rather lay than sit so i don't know what is all about ros and co
