That's a nice mix of gundogs isn't it! Grey has always got on much better with his own kind.

As much as I love Labs (as I do own one!!), it would be nice to not be the only non-Lab and odd one out!

How are all our resident Slovaks??

We are pretty much there with Bo's house training now, which is great *touch wood*. If only we could crack the pulling on the lead like a thing possessed.

Also, she is muhoosive now. When standing on her hind legs her paws almost reach my shoulders. At 17 weeks!

    Hello

I must say house training has been a doddle, we took Cheska on hols with us last week to Sark (no traffic or roads, just horse & cart, tractor or bycycles) stayed in a hotel with her and she was Miss Perfect, she had a ball and very quickly became the attraction of the island.

I do agree with you though on the growing front, they seem to have shot up so quickly, she stalks and pounces on the terrier, she seems huge now and despite being intelligent she is also a big clown at times, she is adorable, have no regrets whatsoever! I will get a photo on here ASAP!

Pictures please! your holiday sounds fun. I don't if I am ready for a holiday with Bo + my other two yet. Maybe next year.

We had a funny breed guess today. Was with the dogs in the park when an old woman said; "Oh, that is one of those Bedlington Terriers isn't it?". I couldn't help but chuckle a little and when I told her Bo's breed she seemed pretty confused.

How are the teenagers doing? They must be getting big now?

Grey and I went to a lovely session at a Dog Communication group where teaching dogs teach norty or just shy dogs how to communicate better with other dogs. Grey was in the norty but nice group! It was probably the best thing we've ever been to. See if we can get Monkey face to more polite in his greetings and play.

    Hullo!

Your class sounds good. Is Grey a bit over the top with other dogs then? what do you do in the classes?

My teen is doing well. She has really discovered her voice (much to my dismay!!) in the last month or so. Playing...attention seeking...wanting something...being on her own = an onslaught of hysterical barking. So, we are working on a 'quiet!' command to try and curb that. Her energy level is also through the roof. I remember my early rambling of 'Gosh, she is so calm!'....well I can safely say those days are long over! she is definitely a dog that needs a lot of stimulation. :)

    Hiya,

Grey has been slow to mature. In many ways it's like he's still a puppy. Just 30KG! A couple of behaviourists think because he missed some early socialisation. He was poorly when little with infections so wasn't allowed to go to puppy class or interact because he had the dire rear until 15 weeks old. He has a semi stalking behaviour when he meets other dogs offlead. He freezes, drops, waits, then berdoing, bounce bounce run around. He wants to goad dogs into chasing him. He also needs to brish up on his body awareness and not invading the personal space of other dogs. If the dog isn't strong enough to tell him off, he can then get a bit thuggish in his behaviour. Don't get me wrong, Grey doesn't have huge problems, more that he'll really benefit from learning in this structured environment rather than making mistakes with dogs in parks.

This site doesn't let me post links, so if you search for a site called Dog Communication Because Mutts Need Manners you'll find it. It's in Surrey. They have teaching dogs that have trained with Angela Stockdale.

It was amazing to see him learn a bit how to handle himself in the same day. Also to see the teaching dogs who were brilliant. All really safe and well run.

I remember when Grey was really shouty at one point. But he was quite calm at home. He really really didn't like me going out and leaving him. But that's about it. I always did little bits of training with him through the day and then he would conk out.

My Lab was a lot like Grey as a youngster...no manners. And he was out and about from 11-12 weeks, so no excuses really! as you say, in Grey's case it could be that the lack of early socialization contributed to his exuberance. He is only what...a year or two old? plenty of time to mature yet. Although mine can still be a pain in the backside (mainly with humping ) at the age of 6 1/2.

I have been lucky with Bo so far with other dogs. I think she is pretty Weimy like in temperament and is reserved. Will say a quick hello or have a quick play and then will swiftly move on.

I met a guy in London today who has a 6 month old slovak called alfie. From Stormdancer I think. He was saying his is mental! LOL. I wonder if it's true that the girls are a lot more laid back than the boys? Seems so from what I've seen so far. I must have got asked 50 times today what Grey is. I tell them he's a monkey! LOL. Good girl Bo!

I don't know if the ladies are more laid back so to speak. I mean, Bo is HIGH energy. Her nickname isn't Bo Bonkers for nothing. She is always on the go and runs, runs and RUNS some more when walked. She doesn't sleep much, either. BUT she isn't overly interested in strangers or other dogs, which is GREAT. I spent years battling my Labs love for people and other dogs, so to have a dog that isn't obsessed with them is very refreshing.

I think with the boys, there is definitely an element of being ruled by their manly bits. Sex on the brain I guess you could say. Personally I probably wouldn't have another dog as I have come to the conclusion that bitches are on the whole easier.

As for the breed guesses, we get that all the time too. I have had Irish Wolfhound, Great Dane, Otterhound (??), Weim (lots...understandable I guess!) and Bedlington Terrier(!).

    JRT...oh dear.

How is Grey bred by the way? most Slovaks in this country seem to be related, so I dare say Bo is a relly of his.

Yes, they are, aren't they! I heard recently that Nick Elder in Ireland has got over fresh blood from Slovakia and that there have been changes in slovakia too with the lines. Have you heard anything?

Ooh sounds interesting, will be good to see some new blood in the breed. I may well find myself with a new companion in 3 years time if that's the case!:lol::lol:

Ha ha! Already talking of more slovaks! You're hooked!

I had someone contact me who has a young slovak male pup from Rosetinted who he got at 17 weeks old. His sounds as full of beans as my Grey. i.e. very full of beans! I wonder if this is from the same litter as you guys? I've pointed him in the direction of this thread in case he might want to post.

Could be, if his dog is now 5 1/2 months! would be happy to converse with any of Bo's siblings owners. :)

Speaking of which, Dawn and Sanders, if you are reading this please do update on your pups. Would love to know how Bo's sisters are getting along; pictures would be nice.
