They are for sure not the dog for someone who doesn't have the time to run them a couple times a week at least!!! and that's on top of regular every day walks... Storm was going nuts for the past few days and I finally told my boyfriend that he had better strap on his roller blades because she was getting to be unmanageable!!! Now she's all content and happy and not bugging the heck outta me!! lol... I need to get my scooter from my aunt's house so I don't have to bug him to run her any more...
that is just one sitting with the comb... there was tons more in the weeks to come, she's done now though Storm and Jessie, of course they want out side...
we have 6 huskies all very different personalites but they all love everybody.... although 2 of them are probably a little more aloof.....sometimes they are great fun and stay very youthful even into old age, i have one 10yr old and 2 9yr olds and they are still very playful my other 3 sibes are almost 5yrs old. as others have said you dont have to run them in harness, we do but we also take them out on the bikes using springers and i canicross with a couple of them most nights so theres lots of ways to keep them fit here are my gang..luna,merlin,inca,shadow,indi and noushka
Kismet is a sibe malamute cross so a little from both worlds I suppose... Never having had either breed before I can't tell you which one she us most like She has the same walk as the other dogs about an hour to an hour and a half a day some road walk some on a long lead on the field for her 'loose' run. I have a 16ft lunge rope attached to a 16ft extender lead and that does us just fine plenty of run for fetch, play with other dogs and zoomies in the grass! I do have a walky dog attachment for the bike but it's too hot in the summer so she prefers ordinary walk plus games in the house and occasional paddling pool water fights to keep cool! She is always overjoyed to see new people and usually greets all house guests with a full on husky hug and snoffles into their ears, she's not licky but she does like to give everyone a good snoofling she soon settles to be a perfect cuddly lap or sofa dog... When I'm at work she has the run of the garden and conservatory and has never been noisy or destructive. Always perfectly happy in her own company anx pleased to see me when I get home. She went through a bit of a stroppy food aggressive phase but that's all in the past now and bones and treats can be left out with not even a bad face or grumble with the other dogs... I think it was mostly hormonal and trying to establish her place in the house. Once we had all agreed she is in charge she has turned out to be a perfectly benevolent dictator and we are all greatful under her firm but fair regime. The neighbors know their place as ball and treat dispencers and we her loyal subjects keep her pampered comfy, groomed and exercised. She doesn't moult so much as tuft and great lumps of wooly stuffing fall out of her in handfuls twice a year, the rest if the year she is content to shed a thin coating of Hairs on everything I own, being a grey red and White dig she is able to do this in direct contrast to any colour of clothing I own. Kismet is not a lover of small dogs however and would not do well with the cresteds. She is not sizist when it cones to dogs. If a little dog wants to charge up and try to be dominant she will put it soundly in it's place with mo consideration to it's comparative size or fragility. For her safety and that of every small dog this has meant she is now walked either short lead or long line and muzzled. Although the muzzle does come off if we are far enough in the middle of the field that I can see a small dog coming and get the muzzle on her before it gets to us... I knew that huskies weren't like other dogs when I looked into getting one but I was not entirely prepared for how different until I had had her for a year. She's more like a big cat in her independence with puppy traits with a big dose if wolf thrown in. Every training session is a battleof wills which I don't always win, I have spent hours trying to teach her a new trick to no avail only to have her randomly try it to beg for a big of my dinner later! She has tantrums like a two year old when something doesn't go her way and can throw such an impressive teenage strop I'm just glad she can't use the stereo! She's far too intelligent for her own good or my sanity! But that might just be her I'm sure some are just darling
That sounds so familiar Not much to add to my post on the previous thread that Seoniad directed you to. We always say to those contemplating a husky that they will change your life like no other dog. IF THEY DON'T, YOU ARE NOT DOING IT RIGHT!!! It's like having children who grow up in six months and spend the next 15 years being teenagers. Here are some of ours doing what they love best: Running: and Sleeping: Mick
Brilliant picture of the 3 of them curled up on the sofa! The lady I sit next to at work wanted to get a Husky. Both her and her husband work full-time. As I knew she is extremely house-proud I said "What a good way of getting your furniture chewed up and hairs everywhere"! That put her off. Unfortunately she just liked the look of the breed without any consideration for an outlet for all that energy and working ability. The picture of all that hair horrifies me as an asthmatic! Makes me feel wheezy just looking at it!!
one of my mums friends has just got a puppy some how i dont think it will last long :-( they arent the best animal owners i have seen (their cat disappeared after a couple of weeks) and they havent had a dog before... it wont get the excercise it needs or the proper training... feel so sorry for the little mite :-( hopefully they will prove me wrong, but somehow i dont think so :-( they havent done any research into the breed, or the breeder, decided they were getting a dog one day then the next came home with a puppy.. :-(
theres only one picture of it but yeah i think it does have :-( he says hes started training but my mum agrees it wont last long, and its such a shame :-(
I have a ten month old sibe and would not recommend buying one unless you are an experienced dog handler they are different from your average four legged friend and I would strongly recommend you vet the breeder and ensure what they are telling you is accurate. this is said with experience and a four thousand pound vet bill in tow :?
