We've had harvey since he was a pup and we actually taught him to chase cats out of our garden because when we moved in there was such a bad cat problem in the area. Yet when he was 3 we looked after a friends full grown cat for a month as she needed to rehome it and after just one chase and a quick telling off, Harvey never chased the cat again, in fact they used to laze with each other by the back door getting some sun!
We decided to bring in our own cats about 6 months later and got them as kittens. We never had a problem with our own cats, but Harvey still chases 'strange' cats out! up til february last year when we had to rehome the cats due to a sudden allergy developing we never had a single problem with him and the cats and both his parents worked. So it can be done, but you really have to know the dog. I would recommend if you have cats already to either get a puppy or 'cat tested' rescue. I think JRT are great, he always lightens my day he's such a cheeky little rascal
