This is shameful. How could anyone even think of using Beagles for experiments. Surely this is banned by Animal Cruelty Laws. I haven't read about it, but the SPCA must have something to say about this.

I'm afraid that this is a worldwide problem John, and Beagles have always been the breed of choice for experimentation. There is big money in medical research and cosmetic testing, and the companies involved are international and very powerful ones.
I believe that it will only gradually reduce if the experimenters are made to justify the necessity of the experiments they wish to conduct. So many of which have been of doubtful value due to different reactions in canine and human species. In the UK, in spite of a successful petition asking for this debate, (not surprisingly), no spokesman has so far been prepared to appear before a Parliamentary committee to argue the case for the experimenters.

This is one area in which I support PETA:
Following a dynamic international PETA campaign, 70 4-month-old beagles destined for painful experiments in an Indian laboratory have just been saved! An investigation by the government of India prompted by a PETA India complaint found that the dogs were wrongfully imported, including being misleadingly identified as "pets" on required paperwork. The dogs, who were being held at a quarantine facility at Chennai International Airport, were released earlier today to local organizations and are being adopted out to loving homes.

Yesterday, (18th.), brought a little more promising news for Beagledom.

First, The Run Free Alliance posted that they had reached the minimum number of signatures needed to deliver their petition,
HM Government UK: Abolish the breeding for & use of Beagles for animal experimentation in the UK.
They plan to do this within a few months, and are still appealing for more signatures on Change.org.

Then just after 14.30h, came the news that the new petition,
Rt Hon David Cameron MP: Reverse the Government's decision to give the go ahead for a puppy farm in Hull, created with the purpose of providing beagle puppies to laboratories for animal testing!
had 143,779 supporters, again this can be found on Change.org.

If you care and haven't already done so, please add your voice and let this Government know how you feel!

Today the second of the petitions above exceeded 330,000 signatures. Amazing, - more signatures than for the original objection, and almost in the blink of an eye!
Let's hope the Government will listen to us this time.

Today the petition asking David Cameron to change his mind about the Yorkshire Beagle farm has reached an amazing 425,960 signatures. What a fabulous result in such a short time!
Brian May, Ricky Gervais and the other supporting celebs, have garnered support from people who knew nothing of the original petition, and the press have generally rallied to publicise the petition.
Keep sharing, surely they can't ignore Half a Million of us!

Only just over 2000 signatures needed to reach Half a Million now!

If you are on Twitter, read LabBeagle1030 for examples of what these poor Beagles endure. Please keep signing, this must stop.
