To me its too extreme- the human and the canine body both look beautiful when fit and toned but for me thats too much :?

Would the dog be in this condition all the time?

I have never seen pics of a dog at this extreme even in the days when they did fight-
nor when the breed standard was first set in the thirties.

Can you show me a pic of a dog like that from that era please? :)

    no your not crazy :D
I think the dog looks like a perfect specimen of an athletic stafford although it looks like a well conditioned APBT to me rather than a staffie, It looks fantastic whatever it is  .

this is my bitch, 11 weeks after having a c section and 7 pups.
She is to me, in excellent condition, i would not take her much further than this in fitness, but that is my preferance and my
    opinion

edited to add: do you consider this fat then ?

its a shame that some staffs have to have c sections to produce pups :(
I have never had to have a c section in any of my bitches (touch wood) because I always take great care to choose bitches from long lines of self-whelping dogs, I would never buy a pup from a C section litter or breed from a bitch that had to have a C section, call me fussy but I like a bitch which just pops them out in rapid succession and believe me when I say that athletic type bitches (not going to call them "Irish" and spark off another debate) give birth much more easily than any of the staff bitches I have owned.

    just an observation. :D

with regard to C sections they are not always because the bitch is too narrow to deliver or because the pups heads are too big

i wouldnt say she was fat no.
not the type of stafford I like, I dont like blacks and i dont like small dogs with big heads (I prefer big dogs with big heads so it looks more proportional :D ) but she looks in good order for having had 7 pups, did you have to bottle feed them or did she manage to rear them?

    I know :D

Im just a cautious breeder - when I breed a litter of pups I want the maximum amount of healthy pups with the minimum amount of stress or damage to the bitch.
C sections are very stressful and dangerous (in some cases) and can result in the mother rejecting the pups, so that is my reasoning behind it. :D

I think any ethical breeder wants the same- mother nature though sometimes pulls a trump card

any dog in any breed could have to have a C section CBT, it was because the first pup was stillborn and stuck, not due to the bitch at all !

you obviously dont like the KC standard stafford, some of the dogs posted dont even resemble a stafford, so if we are talking about 'staffords' in the breed standard sense then i believe that the standard is perfect as it is and is producing amazing dogs.

If Breeds where C Sections were a necessity were not used then those breeds would become extinct, from your comments this would be ok?
there are not many KC staffords that require C Sections, my last bitch didnt need one and 'popped them out one after the other' as you put it.

her head IS in proportion to her body and she was a wonderful mother to her pups, and raised them perfectly by herself.

It seems the stafford that you and others like dont resemble the KC stafford at all, and should IMHO be taken as an individual breed and not be likened to the KC standard Stafford.

I didnt mean to offend Emma, its just that C sections seem to be getting more and more common in several bull breeds. I know it can happen for many reasons, a stuck puppy being one of them, but if it is becoming more common in certain breeds, I find that worrying.
I wasnt being personal, your bitch looks healthy and neither fat nor thin. :D

i t5hink that the dog looks in exelent shape, there must have been some hrs put into training it,
the dog is obviously striped down for what ever reason, and would not walk around at that waight constantly. the same way a boxer has to cut waight when he is going to fight, then they rest and put waight back on. untile the next fight.

so why when Staffordshire Bull Terriers are being discussed do pictures of APBT's and the like appear? they are not staffords and are not part of this topic.
if you like the weight pulling type dogs then there is a section on DW specific to that.
from every topic posted about the KC stafford you have slated it, from being fat, unfit, unable to birth properly and promoted all traits no longer wanted in the breed standard as great and you say they should be kept ! Gameness being one example.
Just because you personally dont like the KC stafford doesnt mean that the rest of us have unfit timid dogs, it means that we are complying with the breed standard, something that actually means something.
Anyone can take a breed and say i dont like that, and change it to their own tastes, but why insist on still calling it the KC name, and then slate the KC standard?
