Evolution is all fair & well but just remember what happened when the bulldog evolved and what they were left with  :!: I was always of the opinion "if it aint broke dont fix it" dont see what was wrong with the dogs of old to be honest.

with regards to looks I understand what you say Laura and I agree

with regards to temperament I still think that for the breed to exist and not be detroyed by BSL and ignorant people we have to be careful

I dont mean the staffy should turn into a coward by any means but I would hate to see the staffy muzzled and not allowed to run free in open spaces like parks and beaches purely because legislation and an idiot Government decided to follow other countries

and if we all love this breed as much as we proclaim then we should all be concerned

i think before long the breed is going to be in trouble...id have a house full ov game laddies....but the majority ov show staffords today i wudnt have for free...just my oppinion...

you just need to look round the ring in the summer heat....
watched 1 die...theres going to be more.....

If you go back and look at dogs from the 50's and 60's you will notice most breeds look much better, staffs, english bull terriers, bulldogs, they all look better and more robust.
If "evolution" means a breed becoming an exaggerated charicature of its former self, I am dead set against "evolution"

I think evolution may be the wrong word to use as it implies natures natural process of selection, survival of the fittest etc, not intervention by man. (which usually ends in disaster, I mean lets face it, the human race is pretty good at stuffing things up when it comes to breeding animals for anything other than a working purpose :? .)

game laddie looks longer in the leg and better balanced to my eyes, the *other dog* looks like hes been compressed into a smaller frame and it doesnt look quite right to me.

    does that make sense?

Jayne its nice there are people like yourself who are into showing & judging and will admit there is or will be a problem.

Now tell me this how can people justify breeding dogs that are unfit & unhealthy all for the sake of a rosette or a CC or whatnot? It is shocking that a dog died in the ring imo it amounts to cruelty....

    temperament.................

we need a fine balance between over agression (is that a word)? and still keeping the staffy sharp

Jeez I cant word this how I want to

He he dont worry Lel I get that problem all the time.

I think though as has been said before there is a difference between aggressiveness & gameness.......

I agree with you there lel, a softer temperament is a good thing if you are showing dogs as obviously they need to be peaceable in the ring and not flying at every other dog they see.

You dont want them to get too soft though as that would ruin the essence of the breed

I think your right - a fine balance is whats needed :smt023

so we are all agreeing on the head at least then :D

No one anywhere (whichever type they prefer) likes the bucket head or not that I can see anyone from three hundred and odd posts............. :D

so how do we change judges opinions? as after all its them that place the dogs and the breeder then follows suit to create a *winning dog*

I do want to say though to those that dont show- please dont think all judges are the same with regard to the dogs they place

    nor all breeders

lel do you mean :D you would like to see more ov this type game laddie jim dandy ect in the show ring today......but with a slightly less firey tempramant?
i think i know what you mean...its hard to put into words...to put point across without being miss understood :D

but....also wonder...how can judges judge tempremant at shows.. they cant :? ive shown 1 who shows no sign ov aggression... no barking....no lips curling ect...but is a silent but deadly cow...i can feel this coming up the lead....
