But we were. Most of us. And more than a few had incredible shocks on their wedding nights. Please note that I did not include my innocent self amongst those wot 'ad shocks.
Hum so I'm a wee bit older than some of your kids n' my eldest turns thirty this year. I do understand the innocence. My poor Mum was so bewildered teaching me about the birds and the bees...I remember her...very uncomfortably looking at a book with me. When we reached the chapter "A Boy Becomes a Man" she slammed the book shut...Uh you don't have to know about that. Now they have guides that explain everything gently to the last detail for pre-teens and on. Would've made that first period much less befuddling, I didn't have sisters.
Apparently one of us [eithet twin or I] asked a question at the Sunday dinner table about menstruation, although not in so many words, - and older sister pee'd herself laughing. I do not remember Mother actually telling us about Those Things, But then, many years later, I found a Book. The Book - although I do not remember where I found it or what it was called. It was simple cartoon and simple words - explaining in simple cartoons and words all about how babies were made and where they came from. Quite explicit cartoons but not scary. I think my daughter was maybe 5 years old and my son 3? I wish I knew what it was, and what happened to it - no doubt I gave it away to someone, but it explained everything in a cartoon happy way. So they both knew what was what and - well, the little book explained, and being a single mother with one of each sex, that little book was a real treasure.
Oh is that the one that explains orgasm with the cats? I believe it was called "Where Did I Come From?". The explanation was these two cartoon cats who wrap their necks around each other purring and purring and PURRING. That was a wonderful book, still in print too.
No, not cats but cartoon pictures of people. It did not explain menstruation or puberty, it was just about how babies were made and how they "came out" of the tummy of the mom. And from where. Mommy and Daddy met and fell in love. Sweet cartoon picture. Mommy and Daddy got married. Sweet cartoon picture. Sometimes to show how Mommy and Daddy love each other they want to get close. Sweet cartoon picture of Daddy wivva nerecshun.... An' sweet cutaway showing where Daddy puts de recshun. An' Mommy an' Daddy be smilin'. Well they would. Sweet cutaway cartoons of baby growing in Mommy's tummy, an' Mommy smilin' an' Daddy smilin' an baby smilin'. An' den baby wants to come out so sweet cutaway cartoon of baby comin' out smilin'everybody smilin'. An' den a sweet cartoon of Mommy wiv legs open an' smilin' an' Daddy smilin' An' baby head appearin'........... An' de baby smilin' an' everyone smilin' So no, cats had absolutely nothing to do with it!
