I wouldnt purchase English Show lines as a lot tend to be 'windy' (nervous) thats why a lot of them are shown on a fine choke chain up behind their ears to stop them backing away from the judge.
I find that both the European showlines and worklines are more mentally stable.
I would purchase a decent book written by some one in the breed such as (although old one now) the Essential GSD by Roy & Clarissa Allan.
I would also visit some dog events to look at the different types.
When you start to look at breeders avoid those that breed for colour ie blue liver white
Make sure the pup as a minimum of 5 generations of hip scored ancestry and both sire/dam have got 0 elbows, the sire should also be haemophilia tested clear.

    Hi,

I wouldn't say any of mine have ever been "lead agressive" either, whether part of my family from young pups or older rescues.

I was born into a house (& family) with GSDs and Akitas. I have owned GSD my whole life and so long as you are firm with them and fair, train them properly and socialise them well, there's no reason why you should have ny problems.

I have a problem with my left knee and I am able to walk 2 of mine at a time without any problems on lead. At the moment I have 3 GSDs and 1 GSD/Akita ranging from 21 weeks to 2 1/2 year old. So if you teach them how to walk properly on a lead (which I'm sure you've already taught the dog you have now to walk nicely on lead) then you shouldn't have anything to worry about in that sense.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do (sorry haven't read whole thread so this may already have been said). Whatever breed of dog you decide to get, can we see piccies please?

    Laura xx
