Hi Tina I've got a jack Russell,Molly, she's 9 now but still thinks she's a Rottweiler in disguise! Any tips on stoping her being defensive with other strange dogs?i see you've got 6 of these little beauties!
Is Molly defensive on or off lead with other dogs ? One of mine is aggressive with other dogs when off lead, Dottie aka The Evil one, she is always muzzled now when she off lead, she is the smallest of my pack she does have a heart problem, (we use the tennis courts to let her run free without wearing her muzzle) I did stop all my dogs from being lead aggressive by using a water pistrol, as soon as they barked they got squirted, they soon learnt that barking at other dogs is not acceptable
I like the idea of the water pistol, she's very fickle, sometimes she won't bother and other times she's bouncing and snarling at others dogs either on or off the lead.thanks for the advise.
@fieldy Phoebe is a barker at other dogs when out, i usually spot them first so i tell her really firm to leave it, if im honest i sound evil when i say it but its that of have her full on jumping, lunging and barking and ripping my arms out their sockets. She is allowed to look at them. Once passed i make a huge fuss and look like a nutter and she gets a few treats. I found the episodes got a lot better when i stopped raining the lead in short once i spotted the other dog and getting my self all tense, i also learnt to never stop walking, its hard to throw a tantrum being frog marched down the street. I wouldnt squirt water at her (sorry tina, each to their own) i did it once at home and Phoebe got so upset and went and hid behind the sofa for a few hours i felt evil and would never do it again.
Like I said..she's very fickle.sometimes doesn't bother, even pleasant with strange dogs then other time goes bounding over raring to go!theyve all got different personalities.guess she's just a mood swing dog!
