I think the only reason Mo's pups destroyed the sofa cushion is cos she swanned off to America to the nationals without them:lol: I would be a bit p*ssed at that too:lol:[/QUOTE]

lol on the nail Lou,While I was at the Nationals, Terry decided to leave the two 10 month old pups for a little longer than normal, and the pups found a way of entertaining themselves, apart from that very messy bit of destruction the only other thing that has ever been damaged was a bit of the dado rail in the dogs room which Bailey is responsible for when Willow was in season and he just HAD to take his frustrations out on something lol

My Mals LOVE to swim - they will go as far out as they have the energy for - or as far as I throw the ball :)

    Lovely photo's of beautiful dogs:grin:
This is a breed we've considered and admired for years. We've been looking for another dog for a long time now & we're still looking, having rules out several other breeds (have one utonagan) and the mal ticks every box for us except the possibility of same sex dominance. What I want to ask (again!!) is am I being over-cautious in this? OH tends to think it's more dependent on socialisation/training etc but I'm not so sure. We have one male malamute in our extended family (nephew's dog) and he get's on great with our male ute, however, out today we met one of our ute's buddies 2yr old gsd and the mal became quite dominant with the gsd. Is this normal for the mal? We would be looking for a bitch but often meet up with other dogs of both sexes. Our ute loves all dogs, no matter what sex or breed so we'd ideally like another similar dog. We do long fell walks, have a dog scooter, holiday with our dog(s) and I take my dogs to work with me so the dominance quiery is my only real concern.
    Appreciate some advice:grin:

Mals can be like that, and is normal, although having said that I know of many, incuding my own dog whom likes all dos and never has a problem with any other dog.

This doesnt just apply to dogs either, the Bitches of the breed can often be just as bad !

It does depend on upbringing and socialisation, and as I said I know of many who are fine with any other dog, it depends on the amount of work you want to do.

You only get out, what you put in ;)

    Thanks for your reply Malady:grin:
Like I said, we've gone round in circles over the past year or two with regard to breeds, always coming back to the malamute.
What type of collar/lead do the dogs wear for normal use?

They wear the same type of collar/lead as any other dog of that size.. its personal choice..

Mine tend to wear semi clip webbing collars and I use a 6ft long training lead with double ends to clip to my walky belt

    Yep, definitely personal choice.

I use rolled leather slip collars (at the moment.....it keeps changing...) with police leads, so I can adjust the length if I want to.
