Just woundering if anyone know how to make a staffy let go of something as mine had a fight with one of the other dogs last night and nearly killed him and no matter what I tried he would'nt let go he did in the end I tried lots of things won't go into to much detail.its mine and my gf dog and we are moving out of her mum's soon as it was her dog he attacked
hi to be honest if it was that much of a fight, i would be either crating or dividing the areas so that they cant be together as it will likely happen again. I believe the best way is to either pour cold water over them, or lift his back legs off the floor and they will usually let go. or......stick your finger up their bum yukkkk
I agree with Brundog. After our SBT chewed her way through a metal crate, I don't think any risks should be taken - a staffy could do fatal damage with those jaws. Keep them seperate if at all possible. HTH
Do you know how many idiots I have had disputes with about dogs having lockjaw lol And most of them have staffs or pits themselves. Definately a myth
A lot of folk I know use a breaking stick, a small wedge shaped piece of wood that is forced between the teeth from the side of the mouth, just enough to loosen the grip, doesnt sound nice but the most effective way Ive seen of getting one dog off of another.
A I understand it, a `Breaking Stick` is used by the Dog Fighting psychopaths. I hope normal people wouldn`t use brutal methods like this but would use a bit of common sense and train, muzzle or keep their dogs separated. What do you mean `a lot of folk I know...` I`m glad I don`t live in your area.
Please dont make it sound as though Im a member of the dog fighting fraternity, I abhor the practise, but I do keep a Pit and though he is great with people, bitches and puppies, he will not tolerate an adult male. Have you ever seen one of these dogs get into a fight, it is horrific, and no amount of the old myths like,'cut off his airway' or 'squeeze his testacles' or even 'stick your finger up his bum' will stop it. Their tolerance for pain is unbelievable, i know because a farm dog came calling one day, and before you knew it, our dog and him were fighting, there was no noise at all, just our dog with a grip on the farm boys neck and the other boy had ours by the face. we tried everything to seperate , we tore a brand new thick leather collar trying to twist it, eventually after a full half an hour, we managed it. We take the utmost care not to put Sid in a situation where he can get into a fight, we just didnt know at the time, that here in Ireland, in the country, a lot of the farm dogs wander around, we learnt our lesson well that day, but we took advice from a guy that knows the breed well and he said to get ourselves a breaking stick 'just incase'. And just for your information, we live in the countryside, miles from anywhere, but I did come from a town with a big Travelling community, who were well known for their love of dog fighting, so please dont judge me for a throw away comment.
I didn`t imagine for a minute you were involved in dog fighting, but when you said a lot of people...it did make me wonder about your environment! I had visions of dogs popping off at each other on a regular basis. Essex also has a large traveller community...and a fair few Pit Bulls, as I found to my cost when one tried to kill my young GSD (on-lead with stiches in as she`s just been spayed). The guy with the dog lifted the back legs and sort of flipped them a few times to get it off. He actually dislocated one before it let go. Yes, I agree the damage they can do is frightening, and they are oblivious to pain. I can`t imagine that any methods are safe though, apart from the lifting the back legs - at least then the dog can`t turn and attack the person. Not sure how you`d let go though, if you weren`t the dog`s handler.
Not sure either lol, I wouldnt want to be in that position, the thing with our dog, the minute we got him off, he toddled off in doors as though nothing had happened, but it was really one of the worse days of my life and one I wouldnt want to go through again, we actually met the other dogs owner and we were so apologetic, we offered to pay any vet bills, although there was no damage as we didnt try and pull them apart, just a couple of teeth puntures, the owner laughed it off and said our dog was just protecting his property and was well within his rights,he wasnt perturbed at all, I did ask him why he let the dogs wander, he said it was hard to keep them in, they still come around now but do sort of give us a wider berth.
If you have a bullbreed of any sort be it pit, staff, american bulldog, presa etc and you know there's a chance of it biting another dog I'd say a break stick is an essential tool to own. Just as is a muzzle and a good strong collar and leash.
The common joke is to get a staffy to let go you stick a finger up its bum! I guess that's more of a "Whuuuh!" than a release mechanism
How many people do you think have tried jamming a finger in their dogs **** only to discover the dog still wont let go and they just jammed their finger up their dogs **** for nothing loool
I saw, for the very first time in real life, a Pitbull yesterday. I've thought I've seen others before but I knew instantly, this was DEFINITELY a Pitbull. I asked the lad (a pleasant man in his late teens) what breed the dog was. He replied "It's a cross" to which I replied "what cross" he said "Staffy cross" so I said "Staffy x what" and he said "well it's Pitbull." Which I already knew but wanted to ask him about the dog. The dog was almost pulling this boy over, trying to get to my Bambi (Chi) to play. His tail was wagging, his eyes were bright. He was thoroughly gorgeous. The young man said that his sister had a Chi and he just wanted to play with her - which was evident. I asked if he'd had any problems with the authorities and he said he didn't (guess that is because he generally tells everyone the dog is a Staffy x). I thought what a terrible shame that this breed has been banned. The dog was very friendly and his Owner was very keen that the dog grow up "in the right way" as he put it. Thing is, the size of that dog (much bigger and muscular than any Staffy I've EVER seen) and the sheer power of the dog just, I have to wonder, if that dog were to "turn" who the heck would even consider sticking their finger up his bum. I'd run a mile and tbh, I don't think anyone dog/human, would stand a chance if one of these did turn. I can't even see a stick making much difference, or anything else for that matter
LOL I wouldn't stick my finger up any dogs bumhole ever, even if it was hanging of my nan haha. A man could fight of a pitbull he would be hurt but they're not that tough. Now imagine fighting an 130 pound American Bulldog or a Presa then your getting ****ed, proper ****ed.
Have you tried it? Because then you`d have your hand in between two angry dogs. So I guess you`d have to have really really good reactions!
That really did make me LOL Seriously, after seeing that PBT yesterday, there is no way I wouldn't tackle one, well, I suppose if it had my kids/dogs grin: but not my nan ) I'd try but I don't think I'd put my finger up it's bum or its nose! The stick sounds the best option
