It is the Devil's Alternative Carole. I am damned if I do and damned if I do not. It is a very good thing that I still have a sense of humour!!
@Malka, I think the plans just sound complicated. The engineering of the loads (weight) is where I’m unsure, and trying to find as much information online as I can because I’m not paying an engineer, it’s not in my budget. I think I’m doing ok with it. @CaroleC, Last few times I’d sat down to work on my plans my concussed brain couldn’t work it all out, so that I was able to process all I did is showing a big improvement in my cognitive abilities. Previously I’d get really frustrated and anxious, and angry, because I wasn’t able to work out things that I thought I should be able too. My drawings and plans are pretty rough though, all just on graph paper. There won’t be any actual blueprints. There will be brain power needed during framing to make sure I have everything laid out correctly to support all openings (windows, doors, opening between living room and kitchen) large beams supported properly. I wonder how much it would cost to have someone take my plans and make a blueprint. I bet a lot of it would just be generated by a architectural program on their computer. Probably more than I can afford. I’m on a shoestring budget with expensive ideas and taste... lol. I certainly won’t be finishing it any time soon. I’m building as much as possible by myself out of necessity, not desire. Since I’ve been so delayed in starting and now doing much more framing on my own then I’d originally thought, I’m really hoping to have the roof on in 3 months, by the end of September, before rain. We get no rain during the summer. We had almost no rain last winter too. Maybe finished enough to move into the downstairs before the end of the year. I have 3 months before I probably need to find a job, so things will slow down then after that. The biggest thing I’ve built and designed myself was a 12x16 power building with a shed roof, to house a generator and batteries and inverters and all other accessories. This project is much bigger. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. Particularly how much I need to do on my own and the pressure of getting it weathered in
I hope it goes smoothly. At least you have a roof over your head so you can afford to make steady progress. Do you have planning inspections over there?
On the hip/knee replacements. A few friends have had their hips done and my Brother in Law had both knees done twice over the long years. All have really benefitted. My Brother in Law was in his early 30s first time around and early 60s for the second go as the first lot wore out.
My daughter was told years ago that she would eventually need a hip replacement due to all the surgeries she had had on it when she was a baby, but that they would wait for as long as possible because in those days the replacements only lasted for ten years and she was still young.
Mr. Charnley, the pioneer of hip replacement surgery, replaced both of my Mum's hips when she was 59. She died aged 83 and they were still working perfectly. My Grandma had a fall in her 60's from which she never recovered. Her fractured hip developed into the osteosarcoma that killed her. I guess it must run in the family.
My grandmother [the only one I knew] fell off a chair and fractured a femur hip when she was 93. It was the first time in her life that she had ever been in a hospital. They wanted to do a hip replacement but the Aunts [the two unmarried ones - they all lived together [and shared the same bedroom - three beds all in a row] refused to let the doctors operate. While she was in hospital, unable to move, she developed pneumonia and died.
Oh no. Poor you. We only got up to 93, but I turned on the AC early and was able to keep the house cool for the dogs. If I turn it on early, preemptively, it works better.
A mere 70 here, but cloudy and it looks like rain. It would, the bedding is on the line. Big sport day today with the Wimbledon Men's final almost colliding with the start of the Football European Cup Final, (with a round ball ). I hope the fans don't drink too much and show us up.
I hope the rain stays off and your bedding dries! Who do you think will win? Who do you hope will win [silly question!] I hope there is no surge in Covid infections due to the crowds...
I would like to see the Italian win the tennis. Be nice to have some new names in the upper ratings. Also, it would help cheer up the nation when they lose at the football, (soccer). Actually I'm happy if the best participants win, but this batch do seem to be a nice bunch of kids. We are told that they are donating their prize money to the NHS. Rain stayed off, the bedding is dry! My Granny would never have hung out washing on a Sunday, so my Mum always felt guilty about doing it - and now, so do I. Better get it in quickly. Oh yes the Covid - I quite forgot about that. Let's hope they don't all forget.
Mother would never hang out washing on a Sunday as our next door neighbour was a [fairly] strict church-goer, in case it offended her. However, that didn't stop the neighbour from hanging out her washing on Shabbat in case it offended us. Go figure... Do you remember watching the World Cup in '66? I had just had a mole removed from the side of my right breast and had sutures in it - jumped up and threw my arms in the air... and ended up at A&E having to be re-stitched!
Ouch! Like the time Tweed got caught in my drain and pulled the retaining stitch out. It spilled onto the carpet and she was cleaning it up !!! That counts as cannibalism in my book - or maybe it made us blood sisters. I have no recollection of watching the match in '66. My Dad died in August, and I got married in September - I guess we had more things to worry about. A pity, he loved his football.
'66 must have been a horrible year for you Carole - and a sad time for your wedding. I am so sorry. I see the fans are "kicking off" already...
I remember well the 66 World Cup. We lived at the Dial House Club in Sheffield which was massive and a lot of the games were played at Hillsborough, ten minutes down the road so I got to meet a lot of foreign fans. It was a magical time for a young lass who, at the time, was football mad
How has it come to this? In just a few weeks we have gone from zero new infections to 1,198 new cases registered yesterday as of midnight [it is now 1:15am] - and it is bound to be higher once all the numbers are in. There are a number of cases from the wedding venue that is attached to the Moshav, and cases registered at 20 different places within a 7km radius of my home - some of which have two, three, or more cases. I had not been checking lately, not even reading much more than the headlines and intro on most news media so this sharp rise in numbers seems that we are rapidly sliding further and further back.
I would be really scared if I was in England after the thousands of football fans having massed together everywhere. Amit brought round a couple of things he had picked up for me - and put a mask on as soon as he took his helmet off - also told me to be careful, which is something he has not said for ages now. I am almost beginning to wish that I had gone against all the advice and had insisted on having the vaccination.
I've a feeling it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better Juli. All restrictions come off on the 19th. I am putting my faith in the vaccinations and can only hope they do what they say on the tin. We are extra careful. We do go to a cafe, but sit outside, disinfect the table and chairs and will continue with the masks which will hopefully be enough. The next 6-7 weeks are going to be a nightmare as the kids are off school so it will be manic here.
