it would be interested to know why you describer him as the "runt of the litter" , is this what your breeder calls him, or is he just the smallest in the litter, "runt" implies a weakling or sickly pup, where as the smallest in the litter should be as healthy as its siblings, if your pup was from a reputable breeder and gave you a satisfactory explanation to its health, them I would not worry to much on him being small, sometimes the smallest pup in the litter will catch up quickly as they grow, just feed him as you would any of the other pups, good quality food and follow the breeders feeding regime, usually 4 small feeds a day, then a gradual reduction down to 2.
One of the last litter I had were un-imaginable five. And the little one could have been a runt. Yes she was very small but she thourished and even though I never showed, she was shown and handed by someone who knew what he was doingl She might have done very being showed, but she was my itte girl, runt or not.
How old is he now? It's difficult to tell from a photo but from what I can see he doesn't look undersized, in fact he looks extremely healthy to me. Both my Pei weighed around 5 kg when I brought them home at 8 weeks old. At a year old M'boi my previous one was a short and chunky 15 kg. Georgina my present Pei at the same age was 2 inches taller and a lanky 17 kg.
He's now 6 weeks and 1 day today. He's still smaller than his siblings but he is putting on weight and getting bigger by the day. He's perfect to us!! Just counting down the days until he comes home!!
Are his eyes always like that or is the photo just catching him mid blink? I'd be seriously worry about entropion if the former
Hopefully he'll be ok, but just something to be aware of if you aren't already. A lot of peis have eye issues due to the folds/wrinkles His eyes will turn greeny/hazel as he grows too, they wont stay blue
Ok @BlueJay we shall keep a close eye on him. We're going to take him for an initial check up with the shar pei specialist when he's due for his 2nd injections.
There's nothing wrong with his eyes but as has been mentioned check them from time to time. Are you taking him to Chapel House Vets? They're one of the leading Shar-Pei specialists in the UK.
Yes @Pork1epe1 that's where we're going. I'm not concerned it's just for his injections and for an initial check up
Rare picture with his mummy!! Had his microchip and first injections on Wednesday. Been told he was a big brave boy
He's gorgeous and Mum is lovely too! You're making me broody 'cos I love Pei puppies! The trouble is they grow up too quickly and end up looking like this!
A girl! She was 3 years old last July and I've had her since she was 9 weeks old. I bought her from a well known Hungarian breeder and she's from a long line of Hungarian champions. Her name is Georgina which is part of her FCI name as she and her siblings were born in the same month and year as Prince George! She has 2 sisters who live in the UK. If you look at the Shar-Pei section of Breedia you'll find lots of posts about her and her "little brother" Gwylm, who's nearly 3 years old and is a Miniature Schnauzer also born in Hungary!
@Pork1epe1 that's a lovely way of naming her! Is she better now?? She's gorgeous! We decided on the name Chester because the lead singer of one of mine and my partners favourite bands. Him being born in Chesterfield was an after thought but that also fits. Really looking forward to having him home now. The breeder says he's such a little character and is forever picking on hos brother's and sisters by pulling their front legs from under them!! Plus he's quite difficult to get a picture of because he's always on the move.
Little collage of our not so little man today!! I can't believe how big he's got in just over a week!! Not long until he comes home!! Can't wait!!
