As Dannys foster carer, I feel I must put across my side of the story. I was alerted to Danny being advertised in the paper and went to see him. His behaviour was not ideal and I felt I could take him on to give him some kind of "security" and basic training. He was a handful but calmed down considerably while in my care. I was not really looking for another dog but took him on as I was aware that he had problems and had seen him out and about muzzled. Also, due to my absolute dedication and pure love for the breed, I felt I was doing right by Danny as God knows what could have happened to him had he been passed on to anyone who could not cope with and /or misunderstand his behaviour. The first couple of weeks were quite trying as this dog had not been taught right from wrong and Danny and I had many a "skuffle" but I could see that by not backing down and not giving up on him, he was and is a nice, affectionate and eager to please dog. I cleaned him up and removed matted hair from behind his ears and bathed him, no problem. I had him at the stage where he could easily pass my other male Rott without fuss and could take him out in public without incident. He did not pull on his lead, neither lunge, bite etc. He was under my control. He did take the mickey out of Callum and his partner when they came to see him and I left them to it as Callum claimed to be a Qualified Security Dog Handler and I did not doubt his ability. I Let them know the commands I used with Danny. I felt that Danny was really not for the faint of heart and was delighted when Callum took him on. I feel some stories have been told and that I am not getting the complete story. I am willing to take Danny back and have no qualms with that. If he has turned out unsuitable as a Security dog then I will be glad to re offer him a safe, knowledgable and trustworthy home again. The comments made by one member about not giving him back as he may be passed on again have upset me deeply. He will be passed on anyway, if he does not turn out. I have been involved with dogs for over 25 years and am confident in my abilities to work with them. That is why I had Danny in the first place and why he was not "shunted" on to any old anyone!
I think the fake pedigrees issued involved one of the Zorgs dogs owned by Sue and Collette Grozier. That is the last instance of fraud involving Rottie pedigrees I am aware of. You can find details of this on Rottweilers Direct website.
Thanks for posting DerPiper, I know after talking to you on the phone today, you have a huge bond with this young lad, you also have a part to play in whatever happens from here on in, I cant thank you enough for what you have done for this lad, Im sure between us all this will work out in Dannys best intrest,
yup thats right, as far as im aware they where DLRC peds though dodgey peds are not unheard of in any breed, but as far as I can see having traced it all back and filling in the gaps it would seem that danny is vinnies son the breeder did say that there was a male in the litter that had a longer coat, he also confirmed he went to the people that derpiper got the dog from, so there is no missing link. just thought I should clear that up
I am terribly sorry for any upset I have caused, as I certainly made the comment you refer to and if not that one a very similar one. It appears I misconstrued the situation, and I , wrongly, understood that Danny had come directly from the owner before Callum, and that Callum had rescued him from what appeared to be a highly unsuitable home. As this is not the case I apologise deeply and assure you I meant you no offence. In fact it is fantastcic that you took Danny in and cleaned him up, taught him how to socialise and how to behave It would be a shame if he had to be rehomed again, and that was my worry that he would end up back with "the pperson" whom Callum got him from, and the cycle would be repeated and poor Danny would suffer. Once again I am sorry I caused any offence
i think the one thing that can be taken from this thread, is that there are many very good people ll willing to care for young Danny and at this moment he is a very very lucky dog to be so wanted. So many others arent so lucky. however this ends I hope that everyone will keep in mind whats best for Danny and endless moving around homes cant be good for any dog.
I think that you have been an absolute angel for this lovely boy. I am so pleased that he has so many caring people willing to do what is best for him. He must be one lovely boy. He certainly looks a special lad
Oh|! sorry......I must of missed other posts by you, I thought you had joined recently....I'll take that back then.
Hello Derpiper and welcome to Dogsey. I hope you hang around. Also a big well done for taking this boy in and finding him a good home. This dog is a lucky dog...yes, he had a bad start but gosh, he is loved. I am sure the three of you will ensure that continues til the end of his days.
Had another chat with the owner of the bitch this morning, I have to say hes being very helpful and offered help where needed, it turns out lyken {dannys mum } has recently been mated to varenka just joe, so if any other possitive has come of this it will be tighter control over pups sold, It would seem as it stands at the moment, Callum has now decided to keep hold of danny, but im hoping this may still change.
Welcome to Dogsey Derpiper Goodness me, whoever thought there would be such a history behind this dogs story! I am so pleased that so many people are wanting to help this boy, after all he has been through at least now there are lots of people wanting to help him have a secure future. Glad to hear the bitches owner is being helpful too Shona. I am sure the next lot of pups have thoroughly vetted owners after this!
WOW - i've just read this through from the start - what turned out to be a poor dog is now a very fortunate dog with so many people looking out for his welfare. First off - I say well done to Callum for being so good and open about the issue - he took a lot of flak from everyone - me included - when he first stated his intentions for this dog. Also don't forget he does have experience with dogs and training, very easy to overlook sometimes. Shona - i feel for you also - everyone knows how much you look after your boys and that you ensure everything is right before you would allow them to be used at stud. I totally understand how you must be feeling. I think as long as Callum and Shona come to an agreement if Callum doesn't find the dog suitable then all will be ok. At the end of the day though - and i don't mean to be off: Callum has taken on a dog and at the end of the day, if he doesn't want to return the dog to shona if it doesn't work out then that would be his choice. On the other hand, at least he knows that he has somewhere for the dog. Sheesh what a caffuffle
Thats is good that there is a positive outcome re any future litters. I just wonder why you don't want Callum to keep danny?
I would like to think in that sinario he would do the right thing and at least give the dog back to derpiper, not just pass it on to someone he felt was right for the dog. Keep in mind when derpiper homed this dog to him, she was under the impression that callum was a fully qualified dog handler and this would be a forever home,
simple really, I know the dogs lines, there is no real work drive in there, so it could be a lot of work and time put in by callum, only to find the dog is not really what he needs, also I prefer {and so does the bitches owner} that the dogs are pet only these dogs were never really produced with working in mind. im sure k9xxb can confirm this, she has met dannys father, hes not really work type nor does he have the drive, keep in mind I also owned danny grandad and grandmother so I know the line hope that answers the question
I know (no disrespect meant derpiper) that derpiper has said Danny could be returned there but then he would be moved on again - maybe not immediately as obviously a lot of controversey has been caused over what would happen - but of course it would happen, why else was he homed in the first place. I would have thought - IMO ONLY - that if callum chose not to keep Danny and contacted you Shona - then you could both decide what to do with him - especially if it wasn't wasn't viable for you to have him back (though i do know you would have him back like a shot regardless of space or anything else that may stand in your way )
I think what derpiper ment when she said he would be moved on again anyway, was if he didnt turn out suitable for working callum would move him on, there will be no problems with him coming here if callum decided thats what he wanted to do. hth
LOL - There is NO DANGER that Dannys dad has any work prey drive!! He is a very good example of a dog you wouldn't take on a security job, lol - though i wouldn't like to take on Shona if he was with her!!!!!!!! Vinnie is a good example of how a rottie should be: He has a stunning temperament, his only aim is to please mum and have fun. This is NOT only because i know Shona and her dogs - anyone who i met that had a rottie like Vinnie would be told the same. I am very particular about dogs i let my niece and nephew near and i can hand on heart state i would trust Vinnie completely with them. ps Kaos also Having experience of working dogs - if i even thought shonas dogs had that drive then i would not allow the kids anywhere near them. Knowing that Danny is from Vinnie has actually made me think that he WILL NOT have the drive needed for security but time will tell.
I am sure any dog that is eager to please and clicker trained can be trained in bite work, Does it have to be a work Prey drive? I am sure not all GSD's that the police use have prey drive.
