But, if you were buying from overseas and the breeder is required to keep the puppy til 15 /16 weeks, how can you be sure they will have done what's needed?

Some breeds need the most socialisation early on; normally go to their new homes at 7.5-9 weeks old, and if the window of opportunity is missed, will never be as easy-going or well adjusted as those who had the experiences when younger.

True, but that's part of the risk you take when importing. However, like I said, I would never buy a puppy from someone I didn't trust 100% anyway!

I just got mine having added an Irish Wolfhound to the family... I will say I do have a secret love for wirehaired dachshunds though....

I have my dream breed - I love Tibetan Terriers. I love all dogs but I always veer towards the shaggy coated breeds!! ..... an awful lot of grooming though

Yes they are or were, someone I know imported them around 10 years ago, and had a breeding programme,

She has now emigrated to NZ , but will have some of her offspring still here.

Not a dog for the faint hearted they are an extremely primitive breed and would not fit into most peoples homes as pets.

I've just seen a couple of pictures of Alaskan Klee Kai. Wow. They look just like mini Alaskan Malamutes. I may be going to do some research on these just to see...

If they're not suitable to be kept as pets how did she manage them? Did she keep them purely for work, kennelled etc?

I'd love to own one and get into the whole hunting/scenting/tracking thing.

She had a big kennel of other gun dogs, and she kept them outside in kenenls,

She only had a couple,(think she intended to introduce them here) but realised quickly the unsuitability of them as pets, she had a couple of litters (if I remember correctly) so there may still be some around??


Not sure if I remember correctly, when she emigrated , she sent the dogs back to their breeder...

She now lives in NZ

It would have to be a red tibetan mastiff. They look like huge red lions but are extremely rare outside and inside of Asia for that matter. I was reading an article and an 11 month old red tibetan mastiff was sold in china for 10 million chinese yuan, or £945,000 and has become the worlds most expensive dog... Absolutely bonkers but they look gorgeous.

I've met a few but never met one with a decent temperament sadly. Like all designer breeds they are often churned out with no thought to whether they will actually make great pets.

That's a shame, I'd love one one day! Definitely a dream breed!!! Fingers crossed for that lottery win. I don't play the lottery like, but fingers crossed!
