Thanks again for your suggestions, we have told friends and neighbors to do the stroking method you said and it seems to be working, but he still gets nervous but we know it takes time so thanks for that one.

As for the barking and growling for attention hes now started bitting our hand now whilst barking and growling, we understand hes teething but we don't want him to keep doing it when he gets bigger because hes already strong and his bite hurts ( only a little but in a few months im dreading it ).

But we have booked into puppy traing classes starting this week so hopefully we can stop him b4 he gets big

we have purchased a kong rubber toy as you suggested ( you know the 1 you put that liquid treat into ) he loves that, we also bought a bone which the guy at pets at home recommended because it goes soft when wet he does stop when we give him 1 of theses but gets bored again very quickly and if we dont fuss him he will keep doing it.

We know that he needs alot of walking and playing to stop hi getting bored just incase someone tells us to walk him more lol. We are new to having a pup and just learning I walked him up to meet Emma his mum ( my partner lols) from work and he got very hot and couldnt make it to her and its only about 1 mile, I had to take him into a cafe and get him a bowl of water and wait until she come to meet us.

So advise on how long to walk a l5 month old pup would be very much appreciated thanks.

Hes such a fast learner we have taught him to sit and give his paw and high five already and we only got him friday its so cool wish you all could se him playing.

I know ive told his bad things but he does have a lot of great things about him and we are very attached already.

Just to let you know we have orderd a DNA testing kit to find out his breed we should know in about a months time so we will let you all know asap.

That's something along the lines of what I was thinking. He does have a look of a bull breed in him somewhere.

A mile in this heatwave is too much for majority of dogs. When its hot like this i dont take ours out except for couple short walks & play in the garden

big breed pups shouldnt be over exercised until they are 12 mths plus even then moderate exercise as they are slow to develop & mature. In normal temps i would give your boy a ten minute walk. Play time in the garden, thus is where he will learn how to play with you safely & securely. Make sure the classes you take him to are for pups only & he isnt in a mixed class with much older pups & adult dogs

hes a big boy at 5 mths & its easy to think "dog". Now say to yourself, yes hes big, hes only 20 weeks, a baby. See difference. "weeks" conjure up a young pup which is what he is

actually in the short time youve had him he now has the cinfidence to play with you & initiate nip/play. Well done you have achieved a lot in bringing this pup on

all pups nip, hes perfectly normal. When he nips say "No bite" & pull your hand away, now you can either ignore him for 60 secs or so or you can have toys spread about the house & substitute a toy for your hand. You wont stop him overnight, it takes time & repitition but you will both get there in the end. Hes a lucky boy to have found you :)

No, not yet anyway! ;-)

Obviously he looks as if he has the Goldie coat type etc, but there are many different parts of him that make me think bull breed, possibly American Bulldog as you suggested as well.

I agree too, I see Goldie and a large bull breed, especially around the eyes and the facial expression, if it was in the US, I would of said Goldie X APBT. But, maybe Goldie X American Bulldog?

I don't see any Rottie, most Rott crosses tend to get certain markings like their eyebrows. But, even if he was Rottie, it isn't a problem, as they get a lot of bad press, and the majority are lovely dogs.

    Whatever he is, he's stunning:)

I agree 100%! Your pup has to be convinced that the toy is much better than you hand...I've heard that giving the toy attention (acting like its nice and 'important') before giving it to them will make the dog more interested in the toy. If its just lying around the house he will be easily bore with it coz its always there (not new/interesting). Changing the toys available will avoid that - it would be like getting a new toy every time!!!

Must say, I love the advice given in this thread. Very good to know ;-) !

...and by that I mean playing with it for a while, not just giving it to him - after all, he would much prefer your love and attention than that of a toy.

    Hope it helps!

We have got to agree with Greatheart, the advice you have all given us has been superb and alot of it has worked a treat, we have now taught him a few tricks as well, like shake hands, be sad ( which looks so cute ) and sit/stay and come, he is the most amazing gorgeous dog ever and so clever, we only got him friday and hes done so much.
    thanks alot everybody.

Also the walking away method to teach him not to bite has been working so thanks for that 1.

We have sent Off his dna test and should get the results within the next 21 days cant wait to see what his breed is, even tho we are all so attached that it wont make a difference we will love and keep him forever, its just that we and everybody we meet are so intrigued as to what his cross breed is we had to get it lol, will post the results as soon as we get them.

Which company are you doing the DNA test with?

Don't get too caught up with the results though, they aren't always that accurate!

I recently done one with my crossbreed, Roxy - it was Mars Wisdom Panel Insights.

We think she is Border Collie x Basenji - it came back saying she was Parsons Russell Terrier x Australian Shepherd x German Shepherd! She's only 8.5 kilos!

I spoke for ages with the Dr (or whatever he is) from Mars who was majorly involved in this test and he said it's about 80% accurate and some breeds have very similar DNA lines, so it may be that the breeds that showed up in Roxy had similar DNA to the suspected breeds.......and then he brought up charts on his laptop telling me there was, in fact, Basenji in her! Now there's a surprise! Not.

I think it's a load of rubbish now and a money making scam but anyway.

I'd be really interested to know what they reckon your boy is.

Coat's not dense enough and tongue's not blue enough ;-) I'm pretty sure there's no Chow in there.

Hi everyone we have recently got Choppers dna results back and they say he is level 2 (37-74%) German shepherd and level 3 (20-36%) Rottweiler.

So what do you all think now? do you think they are correct or what? because a lot of people say they think hes golden retriever or lab cross.

Also if he is just German Shepherd and Rottweiler mix would he have black markings somewhere on him, because he is just gold all over and has really wavy curly hair and tail,
