Both my dogs were vigorously socialised and both attended puppy classes and went EVERYWHERE with us.. didn`t stop them being aggressive with other dogs and aloof with people they don`t know when they got to be about 8 or 9 months old.

I have had to stop taking my NI`s to my sisters as between her and my mum have 9 small dogs and Freya had been less than gentle with a couple of their younger ones. So i don`t believe for 1 minute its lack of socialisation as Freya has been brought up with these dogs since the day we brought her home at 8 wks old..

wait a min here, possibly you should be more clear when giving information on tempraments on public forums.

I didnt ask you anything you volunteered the information! so please dont lecture me on decency! you did not have to answer the post.

You were the one that took the whole shy thing to heart, it was in no way an insult to the dogs, but you seemed upset, given you have a nervous dog I understand this,
But as a dog trainer I see many dogs brought up in situations similar who are not nervous,

You really are a silly pair - you should be out there worrying about your own dogs and what little potential timebombs they are carrying - you should really come along to the genetics talk.. i`m glad to see some of the NIS will be coming along.. it really will be an eye opener... everyone will have chance to see, the terrible inbreeding that has run rife in all Ni`s pedigrees. The proof will all be there.

And incidental Jane.. it was typo on my behalf... i don`t need people telling me what to think or say.. i make my own judgement, unlike so many of JK`s gang, seem to do.

How you can know the temperament of my dogs when you have never met them is amazing. I do not have a nervous dog. All 4 of my dogs are extremely outgoing and friendly as anyone that has ever met them knows.

and a few posts ago you said you didn't lie!!

Janie you make the mistake of using too many full stops. SC uses dashes. Strange how you made that mistake at the same time as saying my instead of her isn't it if it was just a typo??

Oh so THEY are nervous are they?

I know what I said on my website, I said that Boris doesn't go to shows because he gets nervous in large crowds. By that I am talking about shows. Hundreds of dogs in close proxomity. I have already explained this in a previous post. Boris does not go to shows for this reason. This does not make him a nervous dog.

Thinking back Janie, Trouble would have been around the same age when he started showing the aloofness to people and the dominance/aggression to other dogs. Before that he was a fairly outgoing pup. Not as outgoing as other pups I've been around but more-so than he was at almost a year old.

The thing is my little cross breed is aloof with people she doesn`t know - and very much like to do her own thing. So it`s not unusual for any dog to be this way. It just really annoys me, why some people maintain these dogs are perfect and they are not.. in any shape or form. I`ve met many NI`s and they all differ greatly in every aspect.

I would say Ela is shy, she isn't a nervous dog but she likes to assess the situation before getting involved! I don't mind this though as she is going to be a big dog and having a really outgoing dog that runs up to people in the current climet would cause problems i imagine.

She is not at all dominant and will avoid any confrutations (sp?) Cassie got into a fight with a staffy in the park the other day and Ela was outa there! On saying that with dogs in the family she will try and push her luck a bit but i think thats the whole teenager thing (of any species!) rather then her.

    thanks for that,
I know what you mean about large dogs not running up to people, My lot wont go to people, but they are happy for people to approach them, It would be a nightmare if the rotties ran up to people given the way people feel about the breed, can you imagine............the running/screaming/ bedlam that would cause

You are right, its not just NI's that are aloof. My GSD was pretty aloof with most people. It wasnt necessarily a bad thing, its was just the way she was.

I tend not to sugarcoat anything about my dogs. They are who they are and I love them warts and all but they are not perfect. If people ask me what its like living with them then they get the good along with ther bad. I think its unfair on possible future new owners and dogs to only hear the good points then to find once they have bought a dog that they cant live with the bad points. Better for them to be fully prepared so more dogs dont end up in rescue due to misinformation.

Well her mum, gran, grandad, dad, auntie, cousins that i have met are all great with other dogs. Plus we have Cassie and my Husky to keep her in line, she is at the bottom of the pack and she knows it :)
