    Congratulations on the results!

I am having my boy tested for the MDR1 gene :) (just for my own knowledge) He is an Aussie :)

That is a report that is now nearly 4 years old of course & I don't know that the two dogs(who weren't ISDS reg)results were recorded

Yes, that was the paper published in conjuction with the research that discovered the gene. There haven't been any published reports of Border Collies being implicated since then AFAIK.

I spoke to the head of the UK lab that does the testing & was told they do a lot of testing for vets & often don't have the full breed details because all the vet wants to know is the result, unlike myself & others who test for information & knowledge of our chosen breeds. Logical really

Yes I agree, it's good policy to find out if this could be a problem in the breed.

ps; I haven't been able to find any more on the GSD, only that it's said to have occured in a white, with the suggestion that it may not have been purebred.

    Nice results

Really good thread I have been reading with interest the literature on the Mdr1-1Delta and personally feel that the data is insufficent for Border Collies, the most recent study I read was "Analysis of the canine mdr1-1Delta mutation in the dog breed Elo" J. Vet Med A. Physiol Pathol Clin Med 2007 Oct; 54(8) : pp401-5 which was very interesting they tested 177 individuals and observed none with the mutation and thus concluded it was highly unlikely to occur in the Elo population. It would be interesting to see a if anyone was doing a study solely on BC's

Brilliant news about all the test results...

On a naive note, when Fudge (collieX) was first wormed, the vet mentioned that she might react to the wormer as collies sometimes did ? (Drontal) Is this the reason she was taliking about and would the reaction have included severe runs?

what other wormers would you recommend or avoid?

Gosh only just seen this post sorry

Drontal doesn't contain any derivative of Invermectin & is considered quite safe for BC's & shepherding breeds. Never had any reaction in my BC's when I used it. The reaction caused by MDR 1 is usually fatal sadly

Got the CL results & they too are"normal"

Interestingly I had an e mail from Jeff Sampson(the KC's Genetist)the CEA/CL/TNS results are all send to them directly by Optigen & Alan Wilton(the TNS test)& also they are in discussions regarding the automatic notification of MDR 1 tests to the KC
