Can someone point me to where I can see Clokellys Lagos moving at Crufts please? There are so many bits of video out there that I've lost track of which is which

This is a thread Liverbird posted, it's the interview between Caroline Kisko and Claire Balding. It shows some of the GSD BOB movement, although not a lot.

Do you think its reasonable to assume in their "role" as "companion" they should be able to breathe relatively easily, and at least walk a short distance in warmish weather without the fear of collapse?

That is my point in reference to this thread, the dog is question, is by all accounts perfectly healthy with all relevant tests being carried out, yet it has been attacked by many, when some breeds cannot even breathe properly let alone do a days work!

I don't deny that other breeds aren't in trouble, it's just this thread has been about the GSD so other breeds haven't been mentioned. Perhaps it would be better to start a new thread, rather than go off topic in this one?

Just taken a look at the video , along with a few other breeds, sadly the others are nto in slow motion,

But I have to disagree on your point about the dog dragging his toes on the carpet... if you really look closely enough the dogs gait is missing any carpet , he is economical with his movement, have a look t the Anatolian Shepherd and the rough collie, they did nto lift their hind legs any higher of the ground..and the toes again give just enough elevation to be able to gait without any dragging on the floor.

A dog that needs to work all day needs to be able to conserve its energy and if you had a large dog that had a high driving action behind, it would soon wear out its engine.

If the dog in question was dragging his toes on the floor, you would see evidence of it, no hair around the toes,/red sore areas, and from the close ups, there was nothing to suggest it has any wear on his feet from lack of elevation.

Don't forget if he could not get this hind feet of the floor in the show ring, he would not be able to get them off the floor at any time.. so the evidence would be there to see for all.

I'm not an expert at all but the image of that dog dragging it's back legs along is absolutely heartbreaking! It is not right!

    Thankyou for finding that
I have copied out the hindquarters bit and I cant see how the dog in the picture let alone some of the dogs in the videos fit this standard
Lots of the dogs seem to have a longer lower than upper thigh
This line dropped from the end of the bum does not pass close by the hock with the back feet close behind it - the back feet are too far out going by what that says
No idea what it means by the back angulation should be the same as the front - the numbers are no way similar
Strong hocks?? Thats not what the dogs have been showing
It also states that roach backs should be penalised

Going by that then these roach backed dogs with their weak hocks and feet sticking out way back in another postcode are wrong

Yup, but this has been a thread on the GSD, I am v sad by lots of breeds but I think the GSD has changed for the worst very recently and can be fixed quite easily
The show Peke and Pugs are sad dogs, a dog should first and foremost be able to enjoy life as a dog - and running around is a big part of that life, breeding a dog who is unable to do that is animal abuse as far as I am concerend

:D sad but true, and that bit of the stride should be the point of most power - but in these dogs they are unable to use their full power because of the crazy angles (yup I dont know all that much about show dogs but I have studied physics so I know about stresses and strains, forces and power)

Please feel free to start a thread talking about them - I totaly agree with you, they are terrible too, but saying someone else is worse dosent mean we should do nothing for the other dogs

The first dog does get its back paws off the floor but one of the dogs later on it clearly dragging its toes

You are more than an expert than some - at least you see what is there and are not blinded by experts saying its OK

This is Jemima's own words 'I'll say straight up that I have selected some of the worst of what we saw for these clips......The pasterns are another problem....No particularly wobbly hocks here - and indeed, I think the KC is wrong to focus on this aspect. I'm no fan of the alsatian, either - too heavy, too long, too low. And while I'm here, most of the American dogs at Westminster this week were also a disgrace:

USA Network - Westminster Dog Show - German Shepherd Dog
The GSDs we showed in PDE (video link near the top of this thread) were from Manchester Champ Dog Show and Crufts.

Slo-mo is criticial because it exposes things that are easy to miss at full-speed but which ARE significant. Here is a link to download some footage of slo-mo'd GSDs we shot at Crufts 2008 (NB it is a 22Mb file and you may need the latest version of Quicktime to view it - free from apple.com for PC or Apple. I am doing it this way because although compressed, it's still high quality - something we'd lose if I upload it to YouTube)

    DOG 1 + 2: (3rd Open Bitch)
    DOG 3: (2nd Vet Dog)
    DOG 4: (1st Vet Dog)
DOG 5 + 6: (Res Special Puppy Dog)
    DOG 7: (3rd Special Puppy Dog) '

Hence why she did not upload that to youtube somebody as done this to stir up trouble, this film is 2 years old, so why now could it be because they have only just found it on PDB, as Jemima posted it on 20 February 2010 - 09:02 5 dogs out of 131,yes it shouldnt happen and this is not nessarily related to hind angulation as one of mine who is extreme does not walk or gait like these dogs.
