I wouldn't mind if he wanted to keep the toys, but he wants to keep stolen paper towels and containers and depopped bubble wrap...
Jimmy Carter was truly a good human being. He was the definition of a gentleman. Yes, he was a deeply religious man, but he wasn’t sanctimonious. He taught Sunday school well into his 90’s. A former president teaching Sunday school in the town he grew up in. He didn’t do good things for the attention, he did them because they were things that needed to be done, and he was able to use the platform he had as an ex-president to shine a light on them. The work he did with Habitat for Humanity brought it to the attention of many people because of his involvement, and it wasn’t just words, he, and his wife, Rosalynn, both picked up hammers and paint brushes and did the work. Sadly it doesn’t seem like there’s a place for people like him in our current political climate. I’m glad he went now, so that he can lay in state while Biden is still in office. I have a signed copy of one of his books that was a gift from my mother. She waited in line at a book signing he did. It was good read. He was also an Allman Brothers fan, and had invited them to the governors house in Georgia. Greg Allman campaigned for him when he ran for president. Willy Nelson spent the night in the White House while Carter was in office. He smoked a joint on the roof. Sometimes what is old becomes new again. So maybe our political climate will change and people will want someone like him to lead our country again.
Happy New Years to all of you who participate here on this sleepy forum. May 2025 be a good year for you and your four legged friends
In his post Presidential years, Jimmy Carter through the Carter Centre almost managed to eliminate the dreadful Guinea worm in Africa. From 3.5 million human cases in 1984, the official count for 2023 had fallen to 14 cases, (13 of which were in South Sudan). The figure for 2024 is 1. What a legacy!
Happy New Year to you too Marc! Tornado-dog has been getting so excited to get outside and chase scents that he anticipates the door opening by watching my hand turn the knob. Last night I didn't get the lock fully unlocked, so when I turned the handle, he jumped the gun... And hit his nose on the door. He turned and gave me a look that was pure "how could you do that to me!". Of course, he expects that I have learned MY lesson and won't do that again - versus him not jumping the gun.
New Year - New Skills. Somehow, Tornado-dog managed to knock over my drink from across the room! He was trying to get Cat-dog to play and was bouncing all over. Suddenly, the glass fell off the small table. How it happened I don't know - the dogs weren't next to the table, no cats were near the table, it shouldn't have moved. But it did. Therefore, Tornado-dog is to blame. Meanwhile, he and Looney1 are now playing who can lay on the person the longest.
I think Tally is a bit too good. She spends too much time sleeping next to the radiator. I like to see a bit of lunacy in my dogs. It is often those crazy moments that make you smile when you think about them.
There is nothing wrong with being a sweet good girl. And Tally does seem to have her moments of spunk - they just seem to take place during trials. I'd be happy to send Tornado-dog for a visit. He'll cure you of that thinking. As his Aunt C says "a little Tornado-dog goes a long way".
Correction. The Carter Centre figure for Guinea worm cases in humans has been amended to 7 for 2024. There is a note to say that the number of cases per annum cannot be confirmed until March of the following year.
The sad thing is that we have now put someone up as our leader who does not believe in vaccinations, social distancing, nor other scientific based precautions against diseases and pandemics.
Who also acts like a child and a bully giving people nicknames who don’t agree with him or who he dislikes. Who tried like hell to not leave office when he lost the election. This clip says it all.
Well they used to be falling out at one point, musk banned him on (twitter) X, hmm now they are best buddies, who’s pulling who’s strings? they are both deranged, but when trump said that the uk was trying sabotage his votes can we blame the US for tight wad starmer getting in??
They are both narcissistic psychos who think they are above the law. The democrats biggest mistake was putting a woman up against him - twice. While I would love to see a woman as president, there are too many voters who still think a strong woman is an abhorration. And no matter how much they hate the other candidate, they will always vote for the male candidate. And women eligible to vote are already voting so a female candidate will not bring out enough typically non-voters to change the outcome. It's telling that Trump could only win against strong intelligent women and not against a man - and unfortunately, it proves that the U.S. is filled with sexist idiots who would rather see the country destroyed than put a woman in charge.
