How many blue puppies were in the litter ? If the Breeder kept one, you have one & "others"have puppies, that would mean at least 4, very unusual to get 4 blue puppies in a litter from black & tan parents.

If the parents are non standard colours(white/cream, liver/fawn etc)then they have been bred for colour.

What are the parents registered names ?

If they are not KC registered are they hip/elbow scored, DM/dwarfism screened, the male haemophilia tested then ??? What colour/coat type are the parents

You have IMHO purchased your puppy from breeders who can hardly be described as responsible

Whether you like the KC or not, they do support health testing.

BTW The Blue colour in GSDs is not colour paling it is a dilution

hi fair point i have had gsd for 20 years first one i had had all the checks and papers but he suffered from 12 months with hips and other illnesses so it put me off as this does not mean a problem free dog my other gsd did not have any papers or checks and had no trouble at all
i was looking for a pup and this one caught my eye did not go looking for a blue one and as i said this was the first litter

My father's first GSD was fear aggressive & from the top breed dogs of the UK of the time-she was PTS after attacking my brother-she was KC reg. My first GSD was from Ireland, bred from two good German imports owned by Gwen Barrington, she was bomb proof 7 KC registered. Did my father's dog put me off KC reg GSDs-nope just off English bred ones !

It would be very unlikely that your first GSD from 20 years ago came from 5 generations of low scoring dogs as hip scoring only started in mid 1978 & this was not at the time part of the BVA/KC for 6 years, so 20 years ago in 1990 there would only have been 6 years of BVA/KC hip scoring-not enough time for 5 generations of dogs to have been bred
