It has been admitted here too, apparently a Timber Wolf x Husky, [ though the Husky mysteriously became a Mal somewhere along the line  ], he came from Eddie Harrison. He was used at stud twice so those resulting litters would be 1/4 wolf, don`t know if any of them have been bred from but if they have/will be then they will produce 1/8th wolf hybrids. One litter from him mated with an NI were sold as Utes according to Gnasher, [ the stud also appears to have been `officially` registered as a Ute - open to correction/clarification on that ].
He was used at stud in very recent years, so far from `back in the day` as it were.
So if it`s true. [ as per Gnashers own words ], then yes a hybrid has been used at least twice within NI/Utes.
Given the tapdancing regarding the origins and the TV program regarding Eddie and JKs dogs/hybrids/take your pick, I would think there was quite a bit of hybrid usage originally as well as the aforementioned more recent Timber Wolf input as claimed by the hybrid stud owner.
