If the GSD was black he can only produce black as black is a reccesive gene. that means if he was carrying any other gene he himself could not be black!

So that would suggest that he got his colour from his mum then and that she was probably a orange Akita?

Does the American Akita come in the orange colour? Ive only ever seen them in white and dark brown/grey/black colours.

Yes he could only have got the orange from his mom,his dad could only pass on the black reccesive gene.

Have no idea on the colours of the Akita though.

As a rule of thumb. A black mask = 'American'

And as an aside. While out with our 2 they are very rarely termed 'Akita' anything by anyone. They are Huskies OK! LOL. don't even bother correcting people now, some are so rude "oh no mate, you got done, they are deffinately Huskies. You can tell by their tails".......
