That may be so, and in countries where they are legal, that may be so..

But here they are an illegal breed, and as in anything that is illegal, those who partake will be doing so for the wrong reasons..

Your probably right Dawn but I can only base my opinion on what I have experienced.
I am sure if one turned on me I would poop my pants.

I am aware of this, the point I was trying to make is to the OP is that if they were to look at pictures pure pits of a similar colour to this dog, it's then easier to see the other differences as you can often get distracted by colour, especially when new to looking at how a dog is built up and comparing very similar breeds.

I do agree fully with you on this post JB, and I did state in my earlier post that being PTS may well be the best thing for him and everyone concerned, however, I don't believe he should be condemned just because of his 'probable' breed, it is possible he doesn't have any pit in him at all but is also just as possible he does.

I am certainly no expert on the breed but I have met a number of pits and IMO he certainly doesn't look full pit to me from those pictures, however he does look of 'type'. I know fine well how the law works, my point here was, (although however unlikely) what if he isn't? No-one knows. He certainly looks very well for a fighter or bait dog. Also rehabilitating a known fighter is very different from rehabilitating a bait dog or a dog that has refused to fight.

I have a very good friend with a staff/lab cross, he looks very 'pit like' and would certainly be to 'type', yet he hasn't an ounze of pit in him. I agree he needs to be seen by experts as in having a temp test e.t.c. muzzled in public and handled very carefully only be responsible adults but the point I was trying to make is that not a single one of us can condemn him from here.

Yes I totally understand, and Id poop my pants too!!

Please dont think they are all like it, they are not, I have boarded some absolute crackers, but our fair share of ones that show just what the Pit Bull is all about also, thats what worries me.

    Hi Welcome Tom

Jus tlike to say its great what you and your family have done for this dog pat
yes if you get caught with this dog it will get taken from you and put down under the dogs act but i have heard in some cases depending on the nature of the dog could be just snipped and muzzled when in public, but if you dont want this to happen do not mention the pit name to people, plus do not let it go to ireland as everyone no's dog fighting is very big over there.
what to do is phone rspca or sspca and ask advice and say its a friends dog and dont give your address over and ask what they think of getting it rehomed..
would love to see pics of pat and keep us all up to date

    thanks paul...

I can see EBT and I can see AmBull. I see no APBT, and I believe I have been contacted about this dog days ago. But one can only offer so much help if it falls onto deaf ears.

i own a english bull terrier, which i got from a e.b.t rescue centre. reggie was 10 months when i got him he had come from a nice loving home, but as puppies will be puppies they chew things, which is why he ended up at the rescue centre. i had a e.b.t before reggie for 16 years, in return i got 16 years of love ,loyality etc,so i have total admiration, for your dedication to your cause.had a look at betsey your e.b.t she looks a fine dog, just hope you find a good caring home for her. to many people want these dogs for the wrong reasons any way good luck with rehoming your dogs

Thank you all for the replies and help. We are exploring all avenues, however the Egar route is proving relatively fruitful. Pat is now much calmer and a lot healthier, and his affection (for us - not the cat) grows day by day.

Many apologies for the late reply, I've been terribly busy at work.

Thank you again. It's great to hear your opinions.

Pit bulls have the same nervous system as any other dog, can and do feel pain x

I'd say much more tolerant of pain, this is true, but they still feel it. JMO.

Oh ! and how many pit bulls have you sewn up Dawn ?
The same is said of the EBT not feeling pain, my wee one is very tolerant of pain, when she goes to the vet for check ups for the sesmoid problem she has she doesn't flinch, but she limps when she walks, she feels pain !

All bullbreeds are tolerant of pain, saying a pitbull feels no pain is plain idiotic. I know alot about pitbulls and staffs and the mentality/temperement is exactly the same. And they dont just attack for no reason just as a staff doesn't.

    Limps can also be learned!:002:

EBT are not in the same league as a PB. To answer your question about sewing up, if you watch the documentaries that are frequently on about these dog, it has been said and showed on more than one occasion.

    Well hello Tera.
Do you think the PB feels pain when it is fighting?

Yeah it does. As do human fighters but they continue because they have it in them to block the pain while the adrenaline is flowing.
I've seen a PB on the recieving end of 3 GSD and after he was crying in pain but while they were fighting he never backed down and never showed he was in pain.

Thats the reason they should not be in the wrong hands.
