    Would you pay £120.

As above would you pay £120 on a sighthound cross, don't worry, I have no pups for sale, but if I give you a situation just say whether you would or not and the reasons why.

Just say that you have two young children in your house, neither of which have lived with a dog before, and the breeder also has two children of a simalar age who the pups have been socailised with from a good age.

You are able to sit in with the litter for over an hour, talking to the breeders, discussing your needs and wants for a dog, and the breeder shows you which puppy is more suited to that.

Their is blue pups in the litter for the same price as the other puppies, and the breeder is not making a big thing about them, giving you the good points of all the pups, not trying to sway you one way or the other to a blue pup, as they might not be the best choice for you.

The pups are not health tested, which is a bad thing.

You get a few toys, a blanket that has been kept with the litter, a few toys and some food to help the pup settle into a new home.

You have a verbal aggrement (which I know in court or anything wont stand) saying that the breeder will want any pups back if anything happens to them.

Would you then part with your cash for the cross breed dogs?

Voted no - regardless of the cross in question I dont agree with supporting byb's or unreputable breeders.

There are hundreds of lurcher pups in rescue already, living in foster homes with kids, dogs and cats etc and being assessed and raised by experienced people.

So to me no need to encourage bad breeders.

If I felt it was the right pup for my kids then maybe. On the other hand It would be supporting a less than ideal situation. The amount would not bother me. i would have payed the earth for my Fudge and she is a crossbreed.

I think it would boil down to whether I knew the situation, the breeder and the dog was right for me....

I take it you meant to say the dam and sire are not health tested? You put the pups are not health tested.
None of my dogs are from hip tested parents so i'd be a hypocrite to say anything other than yes, if i wanted the pup.
All you have to bear in mind is you are just as responsible as the breeder if your dog turns out to have bad hips later on.

yes i would. £120 is a good price when you compare it to the stupid prices people charge for poodle crosses.

I'm with Spot and Brundog on this one. I'd much rather my money went to a rescue centre.

I asked this question as this was the situation that my family was in when we went to get my Longdog, we've had rescues before, but couldn't get one this time, as the my youngest brother was only 1.

I was 14 when I got her, but growing up with rescue dogs, if we were allowed one, we would of got one, unfornatly we were over looked because of the age of the younger boys, not that they have ever had a problem with the dogs, apart from Honey nicking their blankets as they slept lol.

Nope I wouldn't, I'd never buy a non tested pup personally. (You learn from experience) There's also tonnes of sighthounds in rescue, and puppies do come up. :-(

I voted no, because I will never buy a dog from a breeder. I will always have rescue dogs :)

I`ve voted no because I don`t buy dogs, I take Rescues. The donation is often £120+ but that`s not a price for pup, it`s to keep the Rescue going.

Well I had to vote NO, as I have rescues....they come here like lame ducks:roll:   I have only ever bought one dog from the breeder and that was a friend of ours (our late JRT) all my other dogs have come because of abuse.....I do give to the rescue people who have contacted me about them though, so i would give them £120 happily;-)

    I voted maybe.

Although its all well and good saying you should rescue a lot of rescues dont rehome if you have children under a certain age.
I think if this breeder was not in it for the money and you were sure this wasnt a business and the bitch was gonna be spayed afterwards i wouldnt have a problem with it if I was looking for a family pup.

I put yes, because if I wanted a pup of a particular cross then I don't think £120 is a big price to pay. The "Breeder" you describe sounds as if maybe it was an accidental mating and the money is to recover costs on Vet fees, food, etc. So yes, if I wanted a cross, I would pay the money. Have to say though, I wouldn't want a crossbreed, so don't know if I should have voted at all. Not much help am I:?

I really don't think that this breeder was in for the money, as there were not trying to push any blue pups on us, and not charging extra for them either, as I know that some people do charge more for them colours.

The Dam and Sire were both well cared for, and family pets, the mum was a beutiful fawn Saluki, and the dad was a handsome Blue Greyhound.

I'm not entirely sure whether the female would of been spayed after, but the male was neutered when they rescued him, although they were never told or knew that a dog can still get a female pregnant up to two weeks after getting the snip, but I would of thought that they would spay the female, or have spayed the female by now, well I haven't seen any more adverts, or heard anything from them, apart from them calling up about a month after we got the dog to see how she was.

And like you say, a lot of rescues won't let people rehome if they have children, which although understandable is a bit of a pain.
