why would you want papers for a dog you`ve ``rescued``?? rehabilitating this dog should be the first most important thing on your mind, not worrying about his papers why don`t you ask your ``friend`` for his papers???
The answer is no, did you get him from a rescue or direct from his previous owner(s)? Most rescues keep the KC registration & pedigrees of the dogs that go through their hands to prevent them being used for registering puppies from the rescue with the KC if they are not already neutered. Why do you need his registration & pedigree ??
If you bought this dog for £60 from the previous owner, if they had papers they should have given them to you. You cannot apply to the KC for his registration papers as first of all you do not know if he is KC registered, and if he was he would still be registered in its previous owner's name or possibly the breeder's, Many owners never bother to transfer registration to themselves. As this dog is a vicious dog (your words) papers would do you no good as of course any dog like this should not be bred from etc. If you wish to keep him yourself, papers are unecessary and if you wish to find another home, the same applies. A dog only needs papers if you are going to use him for breeding (which obviously you are not) or if you wish to compete with him (which with his temperament you obviously are not). Even if you DID want to compete you can register him on the Activities register which will allow you to compete in all KC licensed activities bar GWT, FT and Breed Shows.
You can get a copy of the PEDIGREE for ANY dog if you know the KC registration number or Stud Book Number. You will NOT be able to get the registration papers or a copy of them which, if you want to compete, you have to have. You cannot compete with a dog if it is not registered in your name, unless you are a co owner etc.
Where would you search for the registration number of a dog when you knew the name? Who would give you that information? The KC will not give out any info unless you can provide the Registration or SBN except in exceptional circumstances.
Easy when you know how ;-) The results of health testing are in the KC database for my breed http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/3111/staffbtl2hgaclears.pdf Look closely and you will see KC Number,DOB,sex,Sire & Dam,test date and result.
Oh well done, I shall have to see if I can do the same for dogs who are hip scored. I have only used the health test finder which only give you info about scores etc. Of course if the dog that you are looking for has NOT been hip, elbow scored, eye tested etc you are back to square 1!
