When is a GSD no longer a puppy?

I'm interested in the answer to this simply because of the incredulous looks we get when people ask how old Ranger is and we say he's only a puppy (he's 8 months on monday). I know most people say a year old is the transition point so to speak, but from what I understand GSD's don't mature until later on. So what would be a good benchmark for adulthood?

I don`t count them as mature till 2.
Prince is very much a puppy at 18 months.

I think I'd probably stop referring to any dog as a pup after a year old, even if they're not completely matured physically. Mind you, my new neighbour asked if Kiki was a puppy when she first saw her, I think at 5 years old I could safely say no

My Max is very much a puppy and he's 5, haha.

No, seriously; everyone we come across on walks thinks he's a pup from the way he reacts.

Everyone always tells me how late GSDs mature mentally, usually around 2-3 years old. Someone even said 5  Cain is 2 and 1/2 and I'd say he's only just really matured, and can still be a total puppy sometimes :D I think males mature slower.

 tell me about it. It was just after Cain turned 2 and I was hoping he'd grow up that someone said "oh he might not mature until he's 5!"......I nearly passed out

I'll bet you'll miss the Ranger puppy when he's all growed up :D

Just be thankful you don't have a Lab or FCR or in most cases - any breed from the gundogs ;)

Oh dear, my boy's half GSD and a quarter lab. I've already resigned myself to him acting like an idiot until he's at least four.

There must be some "faster maturing air" up North as my lot always seem remarkably calm by 12 months   My workline lad appears extremely mature already and he is only (nearly) 11 months. Perhaps he is just lulling me into a false sense of security :005:
