02:30 am every window was shaking in my home I thought we were having a earth quake, then my house lit up like a Christmas tree & then a loud rumbling bang, we were having a mega thunderstorm there was sheet lightning and fork lightning and the thunder was super loud & the rain well it looked like someone was tipping a bucket up as it lashed it down , the storm lasted for a full hour before dying down, house alarms were going off & so were car alarms and dogs were barking all along the street, I told my men to go check on my cats (they live in caterery in garden) my men just looked at me with a you got to be kidding look, but they did put on rain macs & went to check on cats & they bought my rabbits into garage too. There as been quite a lot of damage done by the storm on the park, the cafe's roof leaked causing the cafe to be flooded, the green bowling area is also under water & half of the crazy golf features have been broken, hope we don't have another storm tonight. Oh yes its now even more humid & stuffy then ever it was before the storm.
We got off quite lightly in comparison. Heavy rain most of the night, but that was very welcome as the gardens needed it. Looks a bit ominous now though - hope what you had isn't heading this way!
We're in the middle of a heatwave which was interrupted on Monday evening by a terrific thunderstorm. The two G's were sleeping on the driveway when all the thunder and lightening started and didn't wake up until the heaven's opened and once they realised the rain had set in for the night they both came in and went to bed! No training for them tomorrow as the forecast is for 31C! And no going out in the car either on Tuesday (32C) to do the shopping, unless I fancy having hot dogs for supper!
We had a terrible storm last night too, seemed like the thunder and lightening was right outside the windows. It even made me jump at one point and Tucson my normally fearless Pug wet herself. The whole street lost all electricity, it was impossible to sleep with no fans on, so sweated it out till the power came back on. My house alarm didn't go off, it wasn't set last night but rather weirdly it set itself when the power came back on and my son's GF set it off this morning when she left for work and couldn't remember the code, great fun.
Bright sunshine now & hot again, am hoping no more thunderstorms tonight, I was going to sit with my feet dangling in the pool but its got half a tree on the cover & I can't get it off so am sitting with my feet in the dogs paddling pool instead.
My best storm story is from several years ago. It was a dark and stormy night...I woke up to thunder, lightning, a low steady whine, and the bed almost hiccupping. Hubby was sleeping soundly. Then I felt the bed move again. The space between mattress and floor might be four or five inches. Sophie is a big dog. She was trying to escape the noise and was stuck under the bed. Hubby was still sound asleep...so it was like the mattress giving birth. I had to guide her nose to the edge, work her shoulders out, her body without getting any paws caught, block under the bed so she couldn't do it again, then calm her enough so I could go back to sleep. By then it was dawn.
Luckily we didnt have any storms, though was forecast heavy rain but only had a shower, been gorgeous today .
@6JRT's Not being far from you as the crow flies, so yes, we had it too. Chas, slept through it - as did the two Beags, which I was really thrilled about. At our show today, the world seemed to be divided between those who were shocked by the force of the storm, and those who didn't know what we were talking about!
The severe weather is really starting to get to me. Puts a big damper on doing anything with dogs and it's a depressing atmosphere. The grass grows so fast and then it's too wet to mow some times.
