Our local TV news (Look North) has just had a feature about Heckington Community Swimming Pool, which is running sessions for dogs and their owners to swim together. Apparently someone first suggested it more or less as a joke, and then they thought why not? It's the end of the normal season (it's an outside pool) but they've opened it up for dog owners to raise a bit more money. It was wonderful seeing the fun the dogs were having! Pepe and Bogie would love something like that - Chico has yet to do more than paddle in a shallow stream.
That sounds great! Coincidentally, BBC's,The One Show, tonight had a feature about the Newfie's swimming ability. Using a 360 degree camera set-up on the floor of a pool, they illustrated the Newfie's unique swimming stroke, whilst towing three humans weighing a total of 200 Kgs.
What a great idea something good for dogs and there owners to do together, I would have loved to have done that with my lab but now I've got pugs no chance lol. Morris will go in the stream and shallow parts of the lake but the girls won't even dip there toe in.
Eddie has feet like paddles, and has been a strong swimmer since his junior days. Our local lake is the remains of a former reservoir, and is up to 23 feet deep, so I like him to stay fairly close to the bank, (by making sure that I have floating treats). Merry refuses to go near enough to a pond to have a drink - I think the most we've managed is one wet toe. I think she has had a sheltered upbringing as she doesn't like to go out in the rain either!
We do not have any lakes or streams anywhere near here, but Pereg would not have been able to go in one even if we did, so I have no idea whether she could swim or not. Mind you, I cannot swim any more unless it is straight to the bottom!
