Hi all I am in contact with VETGEN. I have asked VETGEN if it would be possible for them to carry out a research programme on the NI dog covering all health problems including epilepsy. I asked the Inuit Dog Association committee for their permission to go ahead and they are all in full agreement that I should do this. Here is a copy of one of the e-mails I received from VETGEN. Hello Carol, We have received several emails today about this. I have asked the research department and they have asked me to contact you. Would you and the other breeders be able to put together some information for them to review? They would need pedigrees showing dogs affected with epilepsy and any clinical reports that are available. Best regards, Ann Arnold I am at present putting together a report to send to them. The more information we can send them the better chance we have of them starting to research the health of the breed. Anyone who would like their dog to be included can contact me by e-mail and I will get back to you asap. casandra@btinternet.com Obviously at the moment they will only be looking at Epilepsy but hopefully if they start research they will go on to cover any other health problems that is present in the breed. Therefore we need dogs that have epilepsy or dogs where a littermate is known to have epilepsy, or dogs you know who have epilepsy and their owner is willing to have them included. Anyone with a Utonagan that would like their dog included please contact me as well as they stem from the NI originally. This could be the start of something positive for our lovely dogs if a lot of people help. Thanks Carol No names and addresses of breeders or owners will be submitted only the dogs.
It may have taken a non-NI owner to get the ball rolling on this but now that it has started to roll it`s great to see people getting on board
