Hi all is it unusual At 7 months to still only have one testicle descended , worth booking vets for or lesve it till a certain age
I have never had a male dog but if I were you I would get Rocco checked by your vet now. To be honest, did your vet not check him before?
It is possible, but unlikely, for the testicle to descend after seven months. If it doesn't descend, your vet is likely to want to remove the hidden testicle at some point, as there is an increased risk of testicular cancer in the retained testicle. He/she will probably also advise you to go for a full castration. I have had a Löwchen male who only had one descended testicle at 5 months, but was fully entire a month later. In his case the other one could be felt - but was just sitting too high in his groin. There is no rush, but I suggest that you mention this to your vet the next time that you have an appointment.
Thanks for the replies ladies had read some frenchies can take up to a year but is quite uncommon but a friend of mine has roccos brother and his have both dropped by his second jab , to be frank no they havent or if they have the have failed to mentioned it , hes been twice since with me and was taken by breeder for jabs and microchips etc so im a little shocked it hasnt come up did ask my fiance to mention it yesterday but slipped her mind hence question of should i book an appointment , because someone else said about increased risk of cancer
James - whatever Rocco's breeder said when he had his jabs and microchips, please ask your own vet about Rocco. Sometimes breeders can say what they think their customers want [not all breeders, of course] and as @CaroleC said, the second testicle can drop later. But please ask your own vet to check Rocco.
I went through this with one of my Gsd’s, the vet told me not to worry and would be fine to leave it till he was 2ish to remove, I know people who have had it done a lot later, I guess it's up to individuals choice.
Not all undecended testicles are the same. Some are deeper than others. This is something the vet needs to check.
For peace of mind, it's always worth a call to your vets. I know some vets like to leave it until 12 months, others it's sooner rather than later. I would imagine a 'phone call to your vets will give you peace of mind without any costs incurred unless the vet thinks it's best to have him checked. Good luck and let us know what happens x
Thanks for all the comments guys much appreciated gonna ring the vets today does this mean he will definately be castrated obviously its looking likely also i appreciate nobody can say for sure its vets discretion but have read some cases take 12 months if it does take twelve momths are they likely to still remove due to it possibly being cancerous have read the name somewhere but all i can remember is crypto
James - I think maybe you have been googling a bit much? The only person you should ask, and should trust, is your vet. Please ask him all your questions and worries, and concerns and accept his advice.
P Lol i think you may well be right, phoned vets hes booked in for an MOT next week, but mentioned it to them and said its quite common can be anytime up to 12 months
