Tug of war, good idea or not? General Chat

is it a good idea nto encourage this sort of game with my bc. its my husband mainly i said it isnt am i correct?

I play tug of war with my BC's, as long as you are in control of the game and the dog will give the toy up if you ask I think it is ok. It can help with training as the dog will work for the game of tug.

i actively encourage tug of war, & i let them win ;-) i think it builds confidence, drive & bonding with you! You can also use it in all sorts of training situations, Ie Puppy recall to you holding a tuggy & also tuggy HW.
Saying all that my dogs all know "Leave that" & ythey will give me anything.

Mine even have a tuggy word........tug (suprsingly!!)

thanks everyone she does love playing it i just wasnt sure whether to encourage it i geuss its one up to my husband. i always make sure i win but she hasnt grasped leave it yet any ideas?

she wont get the idea UNLESS you let her win!!!! The Game is no fun if she always loses!;-)

To teach her leave Teach her this WITHOUT the Tug Game First! Play Swoppsies...Swop that toy for another toy or a sweetie & get your "leave" word in! Bingo!
