Yoji is doing well with his training. Better than my husband. My command is a basic “ heel “ My husbands command is “ come on and heel with your dad “ I don’t know who l “ tuts “ the loudest, me or Yoji !
The beauty of it is though, that Yoji will pick up on both commands eventually. Dogs are far cleverer than we give them credit for
I have been unable to train my husband to stop saying 'Sit down' - I keep telling him that 'Sit' means one thing and 'Down' another, but he keeps doing it. Doesn't matter, the dogs ignore him anyway.
I'm afraid that I have to admit to using some very unorthodox commands. I had trouble getting distance in Merry's Send Away, and the whispered command as I set up is, Merry, Marker for Something Nice, then, standing and rather louder, - AWAY! But there again, I give them a running commentary throughout he day, and I'm sure they pick up the sense of at least half of it.
Good luck with training your ‘hubby’ i've been trying for over 35yrs, as he is food motivated i've had some progress but its still hard for him to grasp the basics
Very true - when Tikva decides not to be selectively deaf she responds to four languages although she only "speaks" one. The four are English, Ivrit, odd grunts, and hand signals, or a mixture of all four. The one she "speaks" being Caninese! "Down" has no meaning for Tikva as she does not do "down", but she knows what "gerroff me" and "gerroff the couch [or bed or my chair" means!
