Tighter laws required when banned from owning dogs

I arrived at rescue home at 7am this morning to find we had 3 dogs brought in by the police last night, (all new dogs are brought in between 9pm - 10pm as only night manager 1 kennel staff are at rescue home, its less stressful for the dogs that are coming in only having 2 staff there)
Anyway the 3 new dogs are 6 year old female GSD X Rottweiler, 4 year old male Corgi mix & 16/20 week old pup (we think may be the adult dogs puppy) all 3 in terrible state as all been shot with a air gun, puppy as 2 pellets in his back near to his leg, the female as got 6 pellets in her chest & the male dog got 5 pellets in his neck.

The police took the dogs off a couple who the male only 6 days ago was banned for life from owning dogs because of the abuse he inflicted on his own dogs, yet he had moved in with his girlfriend who is the owner of all 3 dogs, on the very same day he was banned from owning dogs, his girlfriend knew about the ban because she had gone to court with him.

It was member of his own family who phoned the police saying he was living in with his girlfriend who had 3 dogs & he was abusing them, they said they saw him kicking the puppy the police went to the property & removed the 3 dogs.

I feel there should be some sort of register that anyone who is banned from owning dogs is to be put on it & is made available to everyone/breeder selling dogs/puppies (something like the sex offenders register) also when the ban is handed out it should also include something like that the offender cannot move into a house that has dogs already living there, rescue homes are given names of people who as been banned, but not the names of their girlfriend/boyfriends wives/husbands, a photo of person that's been banned & their partners would be very useful also.

thats terrible. some people are monsters. But sadly getting the government to put money in to any kind of scheme for "mere animals" is unlikely in my opinion.

Yes I must agree with you, but something better MUST be put in place when bans are handed out

Shocking!! Pleased that an animal lover stepped in...not sure about a register accessible by breeders...half of them need to be on it themselves!!

Makes you wonder whether humans are fit to be guardians of dogs doesn't it? She certainly isn't, allowing her dogs to be abused like that.

While animals are still considered "property", there will be no such harsher punishments, and it's infuriating.

Terrible story. I feel so sad for those poor dogs, but thank god they're in safe hands now. Hopefully enough people are aware of this "owner" that if he should dare get another pet he'll be reported. That's all you can hope for really.

Can't see a register' being of much help,it would be just more work for no benefit’ what will happen when a ban is flouted! Nothing! Its proper sentencing we need, those that abuse animals seem to have no fear of the law, even in the worst cases, the most lenient sentences are applied. The law does absolutely nothing to prevent animal cruelty!

That aside i don’t see how one can realistically stop someone who is banned' living with someone who's not.

It's disgusting what so called humans get when convicted of such horrible abuse, the laws should be much higher and there should be some sort of register to make sure they never have any animal again.

I wish there was an automatic lifetime ban for those who are found guilty of cruelty ..:(
