Hi all, I’m new here and want to get some genuine opinions on my living situation. I live in an apartment (dogs allowed) and have a rather large balcony. I am a teacher and work full time time I would be gone (7.30am - 4.45pm) mon-fri. I have owned Staffordshire Bull Terriers in the past and had them living in apartments too with no problems but never a puppy. I am considering buying a puppy from a breeder soon but am unsure that this would be “fair” on a younger dog. I intend to have it go to daycare once a week and have a pet minder come in every other day to play with it in the middle of the day etc. I am aware of toilet training issues this will present but I believe I have enough experience to over come these in the long term. I’m more concerned about behavioural issues leaving a young pup alone for so long might cause. I obviously will take it for walks (longer as it gets older) both morning and night and spend quality time with him/her on weekends (I usually take my dogs with me everywhere possible when I’m not working). There are many dog parks around for evening and morning socialisation, puppy pre-school can easily be booked. What are everyone’s thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Consider employing a dog walker, rather than doggy day care. If somebody could come in, in the middle of the day to walk your dog, to break up their time alone. DON'T INVITE SOMEBODY TO HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR HOME, WITHOUT VETTING FIRST! There are some people out there, (few and far between) who will look after your dog whilst you are at work, just for the company
